Alcoholism or Alcohol Use Disorder is the current term to describe the abuse of Alcohol or being addicted to Alcohol. However even naming the addiction to alcohol a 'disorder' conveys a fundamental misunderstanding of this addiction. Alcoholism is a symptom of deeper wounds originating from being out of control and feeling unsafe in your relationships. Once we understand this deeper root, can we really get a handle on this addiction which is afflicting and effecting so many people in the world today.

I am a twelve stepper and regularly attend meetings. I like what is being spoken here. AA does the best it can with what it has got to offer. It works for me. What is commonly heard at meetings is that alcohol use makes things worse, never better over a period of time. Outside help is never discouraged but encouraged. I was given 'bedrock" information to use as I moved thru the many obstacles in my life. As teal stated, these were the first sober and spiritual people I had ever met. That being said I was able to move toward a spiritual life which in turn has led me to these wonderful videos. AA is a great place to begin one's journey. I have never looked back.

(Note: People that 12 step do not speak for the program itself, we just share our experience). My experience was an admission that I am powerless over my addiction. That is very important, the body & mind crave the substance and it is simply beyond a singular person's ability to defeat in most if not all cases. Teal suggesting that we are NOT powerless over the substance is not correct. If Teal were to use heroin for a period of time, she would definitely be powerless to give it up. No doubt about that, she'd do anything to make it continue and hopefully anything to make it stop

"Most people are completely unaware that alcohol consumption is a toxic behavior" First, most people are very aware what alcohol can do to them if not consumed responsibly. When getting drunk just for fun or bored or for whatever reason yes, some people do become ignorant or violent, or even pose a risk to themselves by losing their balance or worse, getting behind the wheel of a car. Not every person who has a drink is an alcoholic despite your unfounded claim. We live in a world where some people feel entitled to tell the rest of the world how to live their lives.

This is sooo true what Teal says about unsafety in relationships. My family members are dysfunctional, insensitive, invalidating people who dont understand anything about emotions. I recently got into a fight with my mother and sister and I was dismissed and invalidated by both. Once I came home I drank three days in a raw to numb the severe pain of complete and total unsafety in relationships. Cause it hurt like hell. But this video made sense of my suffering... it soothed my soul and gave me hope. Thank you darling Teal ❤ Thank you for all that you are doing for the healing of this world

I was forced into AA around 13 years old. I believe AA ensured I become “an alcoholic”. In my experience, AA always felt like a punishment for not being normal. I never felt like it was actually healing anything for me.

Cool vid- AA and the literature deems alcoholism a spiritual malady and a physical allergy. I definitely agree with almost everything was shared but AA never blames addiction on a morality issue or will-power at all. Quite the opposite. I regular attend meetings and actively participate in the program and the work with in the program has helped me work on traumas and heal and ultimately find your work! I’m blessed to have a wonderful recovery community. There are also very really guidelines socially on how to protect people from those who are sick in the program and not doing what they need to do who could be a danger to others. It’s not a one size fits all program either and encourages your own discovery of what is spiritually healing for you.

@sammysam2615
@sammysam2615 4 жыл бұрын
When 12 steps was originally started, it was the best supported way of getting sober. Our understanding of addiction over the years has improved immensely. No program is perfect and 12 steps definitely should had been adjusted as time went on, but there was one reason why it was pushed; seeing, knowing, and understanding they weren't alone. Again, it is flawed but sadly no mention of how it did help a lot of people. No one wants to talk about that

Thank you Teal! I love you so much! As someone who has been in and out of AA you're touching right on what I've been perceiving more and more myself. AA works because it gives a group and community to people who feel very alienated. But the fact is that AA doesn't dig into the root problem. It doesn't address emotional trauma at all and makes it seem like the problem is entirely due to lack of spirituality, selfishness, resentment, allergy. It blames the victim.

I know your comment was 2 years ago but the part at the bottom you said about AA is half true but I have gotten more out of AA than what you have pointed out on there but I am sure it’s different for everyone with their experiences. That’s why you take what works with AA and you add whatever you feel is morally right for YOU that helps you with sobriety and your trauma. I wish you the best and have a happy life and healing 💜

The Sinclair Method to eliminate cravings and obsessive thoughts for alcohol. This method is over 70% effective, if one really wants to get healthy again ! TEDx talk on KZbin by Claudia Christian, Be sure to watch the full Documentary called "One Little Pill" on TubiTV dot com "The Cure ... " amazing book by Dr. Roy Eskapa PHD: (the reviews alone speak volumes) When I first heard about The Sinclair Method I said "Oh, taking a medication to control alcohol intake - no thanks". But after wasting 2 more years, it finally hit me how "spot on" this science-based method is. TSM allows the brain to heal itself by tapering and after months TSM kills the obsessive thoughts and cravings for alcohol dead - and what's really great - at the same time, it kills the need for the medication itself ! Thank you Pavlov and Dr. Sinclair !

So I'm reading this book series by Samuel Sagan the Atlantean Secrets, is actually what gave me the desire and a belief that I can stop drinking. It always seems like when anxiety gets so bad I just go back to drinking again. But there's a part in this book that talks about how we need to cook in the fire to refine us. And I realize that even though it's painful and uncomfortable and I have to deal with emotions and anxiety and stuff that I don't want to have to deal with, it will be worth it. Anyway the Withdrawals are like staying in the fire, and even though it's causing me pain and discomfort temporarily, ultimately it's going to be really good for me. Thank you Teal! I love you!

I just got your book a few days ago and have gotten to the part of creating a safe haven and it's like my higher self knows what's coming or maybe just the peace of half ass visualizing the safe haven while I'm reading is really "doing something to me" for extreme lack of a better term. I always told my family that if I could work through everything they put me through as a kid, I could heal and wouldn't have addiction problems. But I was a textbook scapegoat for all of them so they were "just trying to help me" since I was so sick and all. Lol! Now I'm helping them and all the younger generation of my family break the cycle of that dysfunction. Very satisfyingly ironic. Can't wait to meet you and collaborate one day Teal! Thank you, I truly appreciate your work.

I agree with many of Teal's points (criticisms) about recovery, rehab, and 12 step programs. However, it says directly in the AA book that "drinking is but a symptom" ...she didn't invent that one, and 12 step programs don't disagree with it at all. Also, it's a common saying in AA that "we're not bad people getting good but sick people getting well" and it is often emphasized that alcoholism is NOT a moral issue, so she's wrong about that, too. Finally, many of the things Teal recommends are things that are suggested in recovery programs. Last but not least, it's hilarious that she has adopted the circle/triangle as her own symbol! To thine own self be true, lol.

Hi Teal, I am responding from a Christian standpoint, I believe alcoholics are powerless over alcohol "by themselves." That is why the belief in a power that is higher, bigger, stronger than the alcohol is the fundamental reason AA works. Prayer and the power of God and making something else such as faith and belief and healing the focus of their life instead of drinking is the thing that transforms people into a recovering alcoholic. A person can turn their life over to God AND allow him to heal them AND face all of their wounds and reasons they are drinking. It is a "both-and," not one or the other. My sister is a recovering alcoholic. I walked that path with her and her children for 6 years (as a codependent by the way!!!). I have seen alcoholism up close and personal. I believe she is alive by a miracle. ps, a relationship with God is always safe. It may be the only safe relationship they ever have!

You have just helped me in a tremendous way. I just got 2 of ur books this week. There’s so me things I have no agreed with u about but this is what I felt when I was going to AA.. I did not like the word powerless, it made me less like I could use it as an excuse and to not take responsibility for my problem. Thank you so much!!!!

Thank you for this broad-, deep- and far reaching teaching, Teal 💜📐🦢 I recently did a Tara ritual at a local lake by a cathedral after officially de-Christianing myself from the State Church here ⛪ 🇳🇴 and a quintet of cygnets 🦢 came crazy close. I let one of them bite me without resorting to anger and in the whole 15 minutes they were a few feet from my face, none of them hissed even once. It made me think of you, and I invoked your presence. I’ve some childhood PTSD from being attacked by a protective mother swan whose mest I ignoratly skipped rocks nearby and whom in panic at the sudden attack by a bird almost my height, probably broke its neck with a stick. I feel I made some amends. Also, drugs are bad, mmmkay? By which I mean, this is a skillful, wise and appropriate tackling of addiction and alcoholism in particular. You go, Dharmacharin Aryasangha sizztah 🌟💙🙏

Excellently video and explanation regarding this subject. I get the part of not feeling safe in relationships. Relationships with others and may be the relationship within myself....? It is also great to see and hear someone explain addiction is a way to cope with pain within one's self, from the past. In my opinion the focus is it is a disease, illness. It is a - dis - ease, within self, faulty learnt programming from the past. The addiction is a symptom and not the cause, in my opinion to distract from the feeling within, emptiness and shame. Deal with the cause, feel what is happening within, what are the thoughts in the moment creating the feeling and face with love and acceptance. I sometimes want some one to just listen to how I feel inside, sometimes very dark thoughts, but listen and accept with out judgement. I don't feel safe to do this within relationships. I do create this space for my daughter when she is upset, hoping she feels ok to express how she feels in the moment and within herself, with acceptance and love. May be I need to create this more for myself. Thank you Teal for another great video. With love.

Thank you so much Teal. Alcoholism has effected my family life and as the oldest child I was always tasked with “talking them down” or making them feel better, which we both know was impossible. Though they may not watch this, it’s helped me gain insight. Especially where you deconstruct the AA program. This person has often said they knew that program wasn’t for them, it’s clear to see why now. Learning to have safe relationships has always intrigued me (and scared me because I didn’t fully believe in them.) Thank you for this synchronicity and I hope many find relief through this message. Bless ✨

This link was sent to me by my younger twin daughter... 6 years ago I woke up in a steel cage, euphemistically called a high security cell for violent psyche patients... this was my que to stop. Yet this disease is still in me... and a disease it is.. and for the first time I believe, like any disease...it can be cured... I see that, from this video, that my alcoholism did not start with the death of my wife...it was always there...like a landmine waiting ti be stepped on... Thank you Teal because everything you have said here, in my personal experience, is correct/ accurate and I can relate to it. Namaste.

This video is exactly what I needed. Here’s an interesting note. My alcoholic self has been about 3 1/2 years. I have always meditated and done qigong. At least 5 days a week one or the other or both. My Qigong video with Robert Peng “The Master Key”, became my safe relationship. During my meditations I practiced self healing, talking to my cells and physiology. This is uncomfortable to admit. I am drinking between 200ml-375ml of vodka daily. I asked my doctor to have my bloodwork done, especially liver values. I wanted to know how much damage the alcohol had done. The results were shocking! My liver values were “normal”. I’m not saying “Hey keep drinking and meditate”! I just want everyone to know the power we do have. This gave me great inspiration in myself. I am on the path of self healing and quitting. Thank you Teal for this video. I’m going to your healing video next. I DO want to quit drinking. To everyone trying to quit living with alcohol, I wish you the best.

16 years clean n sober on Jan 16 2022. I was 15 yrs AA ...5 years of that in group therapy, many yrs of that in counselling one to one, still in a men's support group and..... Ayahuasca, a few times in the past when I hit emotional walls and could not move forward..... Yup... I felt unsafe, frightened, angry, self loathing and utterly ashamed of myself, I was suicidal long before I quit... The reason I found it hard to quit... Was ...I didn't think there was a life out there for people like me with out booze and drugs... Failures like me did not deserve a decent life... But hey... Once I made the decision to stop .. I looked for support, I got better and better one day at a time.. My life changed.... Positively. I've left AA last yr ... my life is pretty good... You see I LEARNED TO TRUST MYSELF ... that is the bottom line .. trust yourself/ self love ... I've never believed something out there was a higher power..... I knew that power was in me.... I just needed to trust that and then move on .. and I did. You are more capable than you've ever believed, you are likeable, loveable and worth the effort in every way... When you decide to stop.. seek support. Bless you,.... Do not give up.

More than 80% of the foods, liquids, medications, etc are bad for the body when ingested consistently for extended periods of time and chronically. The body can handle alcohol. If the body couldn't, alcohol wouldn't be in circulation. When consumed in large amounts for years, that's when the body begins to break down.

I rationalized joining a frat in college to make friends but it was really so I could get hammered 3-6 times a week without people judging me. I never thought I had a problem and I never questioned why my life was falling apart. Then one day at a festival I took MDMA for the first time. I felt absolutely amazing, but I also felt... okay. I finally felt okay and I thought to myself "wait a second... if I feel finally okay right now, does that mean I'm in pain ALL THE TIME?!?". Very eye opening for me and I'm still struggling with alc but I'm getting better and better at socializing without it.

Going into the pain requires resourcing as you say Teal. Having a spiritual relationship which triggers the release of oxytocin is a brilliant resource. The first 3 steps are all about creating the safety before going back into the wounds in step 4.

A state of need to forget actually makes that thing even bigger. This is actually a tool to bring awareness of feelings. It's a need to have temporary disconnect so you can actually connect more to what you need to process. Nothing to do with your experience of narcissism and childhood trauma. It's like saying that 3rd grade boyfriend that lied to you made you an alcoholic. No. It's the amount of times you experience it through your life and the weight you place on that perception of mistrust and lack of safety.

Why do you assume that only men hit women? Maybe rephrase to " why do people use violence against one another?" (The answer is their need to "control" other people) I watched my npd father use violence on my mother a few times growing up. I've never hit a woman in my life, yet married a npd woman who had no problem using violence on me....so I can honestly say that violence is not something that only men partake in (even though I used to believe the same as you;). It's a gender neutral behavior pattern that our society (for whatever reason) seems to cover up when it comes to how much women use violence on their children and partners. I am sorry you witnessed what you did as a child, but I can promise you that there are more men that are not violent than there are ones that engage in violence as a control tactic. (Wounded people will never find these types of healthy partners untill they heal themselves and learn to love themselves properly)

Abstinence, Spirituality and trauma therapy = recovery. Very simple. I have 12 years sober and still live with my deep wounds despite years of therapy and AA. As I might never be fully fixed best to not drink really. I love myself and my wounds. I have anxious avoidant attachment. Really tough deep routed issues but that’s okay. My life’s great 👍 Just don’t drink, connect with others who are as crazy as I am and recover from my wounds. Your close Teal, really close but I don’t want to ever drink or take drugs ever again. Even if I somehow become a well adjusted human. We bury the well ones. It’s really sad ☹️
