We’re gonna look back at this Ferrari situation from 2018-2020 for a really long time. It really is unbelievable how quickly things turned from being Seb’s team, to Seb being pushed out and disrespected by Ferrari in just 2 years. All because Leclerc was developing way faster than anyone thought he would
@terkmadugga3 жыл бұрын
I think 'disrespecting' is a bit harsh. Fact is, Seb was just seriously dropping the ball week in and week out. Along comes a kid with just one year's worth of experience, and completely outperforms Seb. If you were heading up Ferrari, what would you do? Ferrari even talked up Seb's no. 1 status in the team before 2019 started before it became apparent that it was just silly to keep pretending that was the case.
@cody953 жыл бұрын
@@terkmadugga if I were Ferrari I wouldn’t fire him before the 2020 season even started and pretend as if it was them mutually parting ways. That whole season became a wash for Vettel because of it. Rather than trying to help Sebastian through the transition of adding Charles to the team they played favorites and Seb crumbled under the pressure of working in that environment, and I don’t blame him. Edit: I also think a lot of people really over exaggerate how badly Charles beat Seb in 2019. Yes, he was better than him, but it wasn’t as big of a difference as Seb beating Kimi the previous year
@blaine3193 жыл бұрын
@@terkmadugga I agree fully with everyone I just think when people say “disrespect” from Ferrari they mean the way Ferrari handled the entire situation, lying to the public about contract talks, the jabs at seb (this is why he was so petty about it) and just overall not seeming to care throughout the season for both drivers in terms of strategy and decision making. despite all this he still had the respect for Ferrari and sang them a whole farewell song.
@terkmadugga3 жыл бұрын
@@cody95 youve got to remember, the start of 2020 was delayed because of covid, and it was probably better for Vettel in that he had the whole of the season to get his AM seat. Imagine if Ferrari told him they wouldn't extend his contract towards the end of the season - vettel might very well have retired. Fact is, Ferrari looked like the bad guys, but they did exactly what any rational team would do, and look to the future. Vettel really was exceptionally poor in 2019. I'm not just talking about the lack of pace, but the silly rookie spins is not what you'd expect to be paying a 4x world champion to do. It was probably better for both parties to be honest. Regarding 2019, I really don't think people exaggerate Leclerc's performances Vs Vettel. Vettel definitely had strong drives, but I think his highs weren't as high as leclerc, and leclerc made far fewer mistakes. Toward the end of 2018, Kimi was arguably the stronger driver once it was announced he was leaving the team.
@blaine3193 жыл бұрын
@nameless agreed as seb being my favorite driver. he does have this weird mindset where he always thinks he's the #1 even when he isn't. but i do get where he is coming from in ferrari, considering he was trying to bring them to the top and such, and yeah the errors were beyond unacceptable for someone like him. i do believe it has to do with the newer hybrid cars as he didn't do these mistakes in the v8 era but who knows? still shouldn't happen. and yeah i can agree it goes both ways.

He's been my favorite driver since F2. I remember watching that season I was always looking at the timing tower looking where Charles was and watching his times. That end of the season was absolutely insane, my favorite moment was in Brazil when he was gonna get knocked out in Q2 and it started raining at the end. 12th would've been very good anyway for a Sauber but he tried again and magically found time on a dampening track on slicks and somehow got into Q3. Then the next race at Abu Dhabi he couldn't wait to start fighting with the big boys so he got a great start and was actually keeping one of them behind. Then two races later in Bahrain, now at Ferrari, would've dominated his first F1 victory if not for a mechanical issue that dropped him to third. More wins and poles the Vettel in his first year at Ferrari showed signing him was no mistake, and I can't wait to see him in a title fight if Ferrari can find something in the new regs

So great to see an episode about my favorite driver! We so rarely see them on KZbin. Did not know about that signing drama behind the scenes after the death of the Ferrari chief. I did know he swept the floor with Ericsson but not to the extent of the thrashing !

fun fact: only him and Fangio got from Alfa Romeo to Ferrari as an Alfa Romeo fan, Charles in 2018 was superb, and seeing him doing well with Alfa made me happy, and im happy for him till this day and i hope he will fight with Max, Lando and George next year and now i just hope Alfa Romeo will be better in 2022, it hurts seeing them barely in the points...

It was an impressive rookie season. He's a fast learner, which is a great personality trait he uses to his advantage even today. Leclerc is already on Max' level, races like turkey last season or even in the states last weekend, shows his absolutely insane raw speed as he ridicules those around him. Capable of running on the limit with some of the most impressive quali laps I've seen, and getting stronger and stronger in terms of race management. Future world champion FOR SURE

I was a casual American Ferrari fan (bc of my Italian heritage if my last name didn’t already make that obvious) but watching Charles in 2018 knowing he was a Ferrari prospect is what sent me into full diehard F1 fandom. Baku was what caught my attention, and i was excited when they announced his promotion for 2019,. but good god his Q2 run at Interlagos on softs in the rain was an absolute jaw dropper and the moment I was 100% sold. Bahrain 2019 was agonizing to watch. Not even just for tifosi, but almost everyone because of how utterly dominant he was in just his second race for the Scuderia. Austria was hard to swallow. Spa was hard to enjoy… but Monza… my fkn god was Monza the moment I knew I was helplessly addicted to this sport and would be for the rest of my life. The atmosphere that day was like what I can only compare to when I attended the NY Giants super bowl parades in 07 & 11.

Charles, Norris, Russell, and Verstappen are the future of the sport. 2019 Charles gave a brilliant fight to Seb, even with questionable team orders. Very excited for the coming years and what these young drivers will provide us.

@@Adri33339 ha ferrarri, if you knew what they did to vettels. That team was driven by pure italian pride and politic subotages. Judging by the recent granprix of leclerc car and strategy: i mean 20 lap white into red then into another white after he asked to get red for the final stinct,wtf, even Ferrari doesnt stoop this low, i will not be surprised if they cast him out next using workplace bullying like they did vettel.

Honestly I think Charles Leclerc should’ve made his debut with Ferrari straight away in 2018 (easy to say in hindsight lol). The season he’d had in F2 the year before (dominated the championship as a rookie), combined with the his previous achievements in my opinion would’ve justified Ferrari gambling on putting him in one of their cars in 2018. In terms of natural talent I think Leclerc is top 3 on the grid, if Ferrari can get to Mercedes and RB’s level next year he’ll be a title contender for sure.

What a lot of people forget is that Sauber finished 2018 with the 4th fastest car. Had there been 5 or 6 more races there's no telling what Charles could have done. I think he easily would have finished Top 10 in the Championship and Sauber would have probably gotten to 6th in the constructors too. Charles put it all it out there and did everything he had to do. I was so proud of him that season.

I`m not even going to watch this video, but based on what I saw from Leclerc in 2018, I`ll say that he had an incredible rookie season. He was in a shitty car, and still managed 39 points, a new F1 star was definitely born that year. Marcus Ericsson his teammate, who had already driven that car for 3 seasons, , made 9 measly points...........there was simply " A World " between Leclerc and Ericsson.

Ferrari took a big risk getting Leclerc up to Ferrari. Räikkönen was doing very well and Ferrari had hamony between the drivers. Ferrari had the "problem" they had 3 very good drivers and decided to take the riskier option and it was right. He was in his first Ferrari-season on Vettel´s pace (It´s hard to compare 2020 as already before the season Ferrari announced that Vettel wouldn´t drive for them in 2021.) and surely improved since then. I think, at the time Leclerc is one of the three fastest drivers in F1.

Well, Kimi's move to the Sauber seat at Alfa was planned out before Charles even got to F1. Kimi, while Racing for Ferrari in 2017, bought a significant part of the Alfa F1 team and set his planned move over to that Sauber owned seat for 2019. Kimi wasn't dropped, he's just been playing "My Team" IRL for the last 3 and a bit seasons. Notice there wasn't ANY backlash from Kimi after leaving Ferrari? Even when he was asked in an interview how he felt about it? He wasn't fussed at all. Didn't you ever wonder how Kimi could get away with saying that F1 "is just a hobby" to him on DTS with absolutely ZERO backlash from Alfa? How about how he manages to retain that seat without ever seeming in danger of losing it despite lackluster results? Dude planned out his own retirement and ensured he could race till he wanted to. Frederick Vasser NEVER had control of either that seat, or Kimi in general. Kimi essentially outranked him

Crazy opinion and I love Seb but potentially promoting Charles to Ferrari in 2019 alongside Kimi would have worked very well. 🤷♂️ After the 2018 summer break Seb scored 131 points and Kimi scored 105 and that’s with 2 DNFs that were arguably not Kimi’s fault. Not to mention Seb spun 3 times after the summer break in Monza, Suzuka and COTA. There would have been almost 0 BS between Kimi and Charles, a combination that would have potentially challenged Mercedes more in 2019, unlikely for the title but certainly more than they did. Kimi’s drives at Monza and COTA in 2018 to me proved why he deserved that seat and in both those races Seb F****** up and wasn’t there to support Kimi in the race. Likely Kimi and Charles as teammates would have last 2019, 2020 and 2021. Just my opinion. Ferrari make some questionable decisions.
