Hi! I have been reading on organic chemistry reactions too, I wondered, is the Wittig Reaction actually stereospecific, and for non-stabilised ylides, they will form cis alkenes, and for ylides stabilised by EWGs such as carbonyls and also nitriles, the trans alkene is formed. But great video, learnt a lot from this channel over the years

please i confused a lot about enol formation & aldol condensation. 1.) carbonyl when attack by nucleophile like amines, nitriles and importantly OH(alcohol) they all attack at carbonyl. 2.) then why in enol formation strong base like NaOH (-OH) attack the alpa-H that doesnt make any sense... since alpa-H also exist in other nucleophilic attack (nitrile,alcohol,etc). 3.) when enol formed then continue in aldol cond, why it is considered attack its original form (aldehyde,ketone)??? 4.) iffffff thats the case, why it wont happen in other reaction e.g imine from ketone will attack ketone again perhaps to form somethin else??

doesn't the reaction of a ketone/aldehyde with a grignard reagence also work with H2O in replacement for the H3O+ due to the positiv partial charge of the H-atom within the water molecule ? you would get an alkohol and MgBrOH

9:47 what if we add two equivalent LiAl(OR)3H to chloride acid? Will the extra reagent reduce aldehyde ?
@nicksacco50413 жыл бұрын
Yes
@doraexplorer43722 жыл бұрын
This is also my question
@annacomstock58052 жыл бұрын
It depends on the relative electrophilicity of the two groups. In this case the -Cl is more reactive than the aldehyde so it does the single addition to all Cl first. However if you added more it will keep going. If the initial carbonyl is an ester, the reagent will do a double addition to go all the way to the alcohol because the aldehyde will be more reactive.
