REACTION AND RESPONSE I am the owner of these boots. I have to say that I am extremely impressed and more than satisfied with Steve’s work on my boots. I spent $683 for these boots with shoe trees and shipping. On top of that I spent roughly $600 for Steve to do an upgrade. So as of now, I’m into these boots for $1283. Some of you are asking, “Why would a person spend $600 to rework brand new boots?” “Why didn’t I just buy this boot or that boot?” and “Why the change from a 270° to a 360° welt?” So here is MY thought process. These boots are an investment. ANYONE who has been watching Steve’s videos is aware of the products (fiberboard heel blocks, heel rands, and midsoles) Alden uses in the manufacture of their Indy boots. Honestly, I would have and I’m sure other would be more than happy to pay extra for the the boots if Alden produced them with the higher quality materials. Alas, that was not an option. I am 6’5” 295lbs with wide feet and a high arch. I am a full time woodworker and part time school bus driver. I am on my feet all day except when I am driving. I wanted the wider heel base that the 360° welt provided for the additional stability. I wanted the higher quality products. The stacked leather heels and the leather midsole. All of Alden’s boots are made with the fiberboard so there is NO stock replacement for what Steve did. I figured these better products would last longer and make future resole jobs smoother and less expensive in the long run. Even though there is a rumor that Steve might be more expensive than other cobblers, he more that makes up for that in the quality of his work (see Botched Carmina Job). You get what you pay for and I got the boot I want. Also, after watching the video of Steve working on my boots and taking the stability, quality, and comfort out of the equation, my boots just look bad ass!
@diegocadavid14773 жыл бұрын
At first I though it was some sort of whimsical thing to do, but the 360 welt really makes a lot of sense both structurally and aesthetically. It is such a different boot all around just having that "tuning", really looks as the boot Alden themselves should have manufactured. Congrats and enjoy your boots!

Your feet and your money. If they are comfortable and last years its money well spent. Aldens are comfortable but I would try parkhurst with the special arch support. Much cheaper and more leather.

Steve, all I can say is, “Wow!” At first I was skeptical you were messing with a brand new, Alden classic. However, by the end of the video it was clear you not only improved this boot functionally but also aesthetically. They look awesome now and use high-quality materials that, quite frankly, should have been there originally for the price Alden charges. Your craftsmanship is outstanding! Always great to see these videos!

Why am I watching a cobbler repairing shoes when I have only one single pair of leather shoes (for weddings and funerals)? Simple - I don't have to learn to play the violin to enjoy listening to a violin virtuoso perform. I'm a big fan of superior craftsmanship. Keep up the good work my man. Thanks.

I am so amazed at the lackluster quality of “name brand” products that are of such high prices (like those Ferragamo’s he showed). Yup, 150 lbs. people just don't get it. But, have them piggy-back their twin around all day long, and they'll begin to understand the benefit of a GOOD shoe that FITS well. And, when you wear a 15D, finding quality shoes which are affordable is a real challenge. For me, that's meant Allen Edmonds. I've been fortunate enough to find some good sales, so I have half a dozen pairs of their shoes and a pair of their boots. It's nice to be able to rotate them, and shoe trees in all of them when not worn. That Baker Leather looks like it could give JR a run for its money. That's some good lookin' stuff right there. Fine upgrades to a fine set of hoof-covers. I like Alden's approach to that heel shape.
@krisjonesuk3 жыл бұрын
I don’t mind 270 degree welts on a fine pair of dress shoes, but aesthetically I always think 360 degree welts look much better, especially on work boots. To my eye these boots look much better. Incidentally, my viewing was interrupted by a news flash. What was I doing when I heard Prince Philip died? - watching Steve brew his coffee!

Great video! I finally picked up my first pair of Alden 405’s. Interesting what you said about the fiber material rather than leather. I would have thought Alden used leather throughout the boot. Your end product looks amazing! I love the 360 welt over the 270. Your work is always top notch. Cheers, remain calm and hammer on!!!

I have he same boot and I have a pair of Alden Tankers in cordovan with the commando soles. He Indys in my opinion are much more comfortable with the cork sole. Don’t like how fast the heels wear on them but love he feel of those over the commandos on my Tankers. I can see how doing the 360 welt is an upgrade but the cork is so much more comfortable and wears just as good if not better than the commandos
