For me basswood. I like that low mid range boost of basswood and that it's focused on the low to high mids (Guitar is a mid range focused instrument in the first place).

Results to me are this Basswood less resonance maybe if get 500k pot can sound a little bit louder Alder more resonance and plus 500 k pot is like Maple fingerboard sound.

For me - main outcome is that if there is a choice of wood when buying guitar - basswood will be last one to choose.

Depends on what you're playing. Country music alder ALL day. Most other styles basswood is just fine if not better.

Maple cap is a very good addition as well with any basswood body.

If you want a strat to sound like a strat, the body has to be made of ash or alder. If you don´t care about the real stratocaster sound, so you can save money and buy one of basswood.

Marcello Freitas Rubbish. The difference is almost neglible. If someone played a strat with basswood you wouldn't even know. Amps and pickups play a much bigger role in tone.

@@TheEchelon Wood affect tone in a way that is not a domain of equalization - frequency response but dynamics - note onset, resonance, decay, sustain. You cant equalize it. Bridge construction and material has very similar influence on sound, and even bigger. Something totally different than pickup type and eq.

I have both basswood and alder strats. I have tested them through Roland HS-5 Session Mixer with the same setup, using an A/B box. The basswood is a cheap strat with stainless steel jumbo frets and Tesla pickups, while the alder is a Fender-powered by Roland MIMx. Even with the upgrades, basswood has a thin sound and specially sounds tinny in the neck pickup, while the alder has that rich and distinctive Fenderly sound. However, basswood can be used in any other guitar, as long as they are not Stratocasters, Telecasters, Les Pauls or SGs.

I'm not a fan of basswood either. It sounds bland, and lacks bass. It might work for certain music. It's just not for me.

The Alder sounds better... but there are other points to consider... how many pices where the bodies? 2,3,4...more? Also, there is a different finish on the guitars... and that makes a difference... anyway, great video... nice to be able to hear both of them and get an opinion.

Of course Alder sounds better. If you want a real strat sound, the body should be made of Alder or Ash. If you don´t care about stratocaster sound or even about stratocaster guitars, you can buy a basswood Ibanez, just to give one name...
