Muntz is like the best Pixar villain to date! That he's a person who choosed to value his own reputation over relationships and to stay in the past, to clear his name at any cost just shows how dark he really ks

The irony is that if Charles Muntz had succeeded in bringing the captured Kevin back to the U.S., it would’ve all been for nothing considering how much society changed in the many, MANY years he was gone and a majority of the people wouldn’t know or remember who he is or was considering Muntz is more of an OBSCURE celebrity that only Carl knows about while Russell clearly has never heard of him. Really adds a lot more tragedy to him.

Modern society also knows a lot more about South America and the jungles/rainforests in general than they did in Muntz's time, and it's very likely somebody else has _already_ discovered Kevin's species. So no one would have even cared if Muntz came back to show off his outdated "discoveries", and if anything would probably just be mad that this crazy old man took a wild animal from its habitat. It's even worse knowing that, with later scientific advancements that came after his time, they could have probably just looked at Muntz's original skeleton again and realised it actually was genuine the whole time, which would have allowed him to clear his name that way instead. Muntz threw away decades of his life hunting Kevin down for the sake of sticking it to some naysayers who have probably been dead for decades anyway by this point.

@@superfanmusicmaker Truth be told chances are if Muntz did return not only facing the massive culture shock the guy would probably have a mental breakdown if he finds out he's past work has been made clear or stolen by someone else for decades. An that the same people that deemed his work entirely false had changed there minds years later, and say yeah its actually real, and send Muntz there regards if he does comeback. Muntz will probably go on a shooting spree, as all the wasted years in isolation, angst, people he killed, all the unknown hardships and sacrifices he faced catches up to him. An culminates in absolutely nothing to show for it in the end except a long outdated sorry latter from the same fools that stripped him of all his honors, awards, his dignity, and pride.

I believe there was already internet around that time and they would've seen him in the books or old videos. The same reason many young people know the Beatles, Elvis and Marilyn Monroe.

@@johnlemon2916 They are much more well known public figures in the eyes of the general public, and since the opening scene looks like it was taking place around the mid-late 1930s. We got to take into account peoples attention for Muntz kinda died out when WW2 came. As some has been who went to South to catch a bird ain't priority in the general publics eyes.

@@silentecho92able if someone wants to disappear in the public eye to prove a point, then came back later, then he might have a chance to be famous. In this case, Charles wants to find Kevin bird then take the specie home. He will be famous for his dedication to find the bird for more the 60 years and never gave up.

Something I always loved about this movie and Muntz as a villain is just how much of a foil he is to Carl. Both characters have an obsession, Charles with Kevin, Carl with Ellie. The only reason both even go to Paradise Falls is because of something they just cannot let go of. Carl thankfully learns his lesson in the immensely emotional scene, and because he had someone as supportive as Ellie, he was able to let go, Charles meanwhile wasn’t, and it was quite literally his downfall. Crazy how simple the writing is but just how effective it is in what it’s trying to say…

Something I didn't realize until my most recent watch is Russell has his own bit of character growth via climbing the hose. The first time he did it, he didn't even climb a few feet. But in the battle between Carl and Charles, Russell manages to climb the entire hose all by himself with the intention of saving Carl, showing that he just needed the right motivation to succeed, which also fits with the story

Man, muntz drove home the whole "dont let yourself get caught up proving wjo you are to ppl who dont matter" point way more effectively than any protagonist ive ever come across. Reall a good fallen hero of a villain.

Wow I never thought about the fact that the society Muntz wants revenge on may not even be alive anymore. That emphasizes his unrighteous obsession that much more

Thinking about it, Charles muntiz is so dedicated to his cause that he became an expert machsnic just to find Kevin. Think about it, he would’ve lost access to the parts needed to keep his blimp functioning at least 5 decades prior (not even counting the dog collar technology). He would be nearing the end of having spare parts to replace bolts for a boiler door and such.If he ever decided to go back to civilization to grab screws and nuts, eventually he won’t be able to find any parts due to how manufactured parts are changing at least every few decades. His blimp shouldn’t be able to fly anymore by the time Carl got to paradise falls (from a lack of parts standpoint).

Unless Muntz brought along enough spare parts to keep the zeppelin functional for a long time, but I think the main issue would be the fuel to get it to fly. Also I would bet that zeppelin never left that cave that housed it for a time.
