this is a story of depression. she built a castle in her mind so she wouldn't get hurt. the only problem was, nobody could get in to help her, and the castle (her mind) was drowning yet in fire at the same time. the drowning symbolizes natural destruction, such as the wearing down of the walls. the fire is inner turmoil that this depression has caused, destroying almost everything but her depression, the rubble that remains. she will eventually be happy again, but she will never truly forget her fight with depression. she only wants to love and be loved, though her mind will never let her do so. hence the line "and there's no one to love you if you trap yourself inside."

I was standing by the water fountain when I saw steve doing Annabelle's homework. They had to let me down slowly so that I would settle down and deal with the pain of not winning the paper crown. I looked into my mother's eyes and said if we have each other then we'll be ok. The knife in my back, from the boy who was in the bubble killed me. The boys name was Gabriel. Pt 2 - more songs (continued) but he got bored of pretending he knew the boy in the bubble, so he built a friend. Oh I envy you, Gabriel. That was the worst day of my life. It was 1994 when all of this happened. I had to ride my old bicycle home as I was outrunning karma that day, in an attempt to find Jesus in LA. The only thing I remembered was my mother's eyes though, from when she was tying my laces as a child. Thank you to everyone who's suggested more ideas, suggest more if you wish and I'll add them in somehow.

Just come here to compare how different the new version is. And wow. It's so weird coming back to this song after so long. I love both the new and old versions but Alec sounds so unbelievably different and it's amazing. I've grown so much since I first listened to this song all those years ago when I was doing my GCSEs, now I'm in my second year of university. I've grown since then and so it seems has Alec. We all change over time and the changes between this and the new version just reflect that beautifully in my opinion
