The popping noise when you cut off the gas is it similar to a backfire in a car, this is preventable with something called a flashback arrestor. Essentially a piece of metal tubing with a reducer on either end down to the size of your gas lines. The tubing is packed with brass wool. Simply connect the flashback arrestor at the end of the gas line and the base of the torch, no more bang!

@dodgydingygames3 жыл бұрын
I think you're mistaken here, the noise isn't the gas burning in the lines, because it can't - one line is only oxygen and the other is only fuel so neither can support combustion themselves, likely the noise is a flashback in the torch body itself when the gas gets slow enough for the flame to burn back to the point the oxygen and propane mix. This is a result of torch design and flashback arrestors in the lines wouldn't do anything to help it (though they are still a good idea for safety in gas air got into a fuel line or something)
@Frie_Jemi3 жыл бұрын
@@dodgydingygamesyou're possibly right, but I have had this problem before and fixed it with the flashback arrestor. I can't say if it would help in his situation for sure but as you said probably a good idea regardless.

pretty sure that pressure wave can go back into the gun and ruin some of its internals and only happens when the oxygen is cut off before the fuel. Perhaps the new valve can be adjusted to shutoff gas flow in the correct order.

it bangs because the oxygen needs to be turned off slightly b4 the fuel. does it adjust? what if you change the order of the hoses? alternatively run the fuel to the torch at a higher feed pressure then the O2. that way when you shut it off, the O2 in the hoses between your fancy shutoff valve and the control valves on the torch will run out before the fuel.

To try to get rid of the popping noise, try turning the gas back a little. What it is is like an automobile backfire. It builds gas in the exhaust pipe then explodes. The torch is doing basically the same thing. It might be at the hang valve it may be at the tip but one of the settings on the gas side it a little high.

For your flame saver, the bang is indicative of an imbalance in pressures, where the propane comes back into the torch while it is still trying to burn. Try adjusting the propane pressure up :) Common armourer problem.

Ship Station really helps him Ship his Pants everywhere around the world!
@Tritchet_3 жыл бұрын
The reason fro the bang when you shut off de flame, is that your oxygen pressure falls to fast. It lies in the operating principle of the torch. It's an injector torch and that means, that the oxygen that has a higher pressuere than the propane or acetylene sucks the burning gas into the mixingpipe. But when you turn off the oxygen and burning gas, the oxygenpressure falls to fast and then the flame can burn back into the mixing pipe and with the right oxygen/burning gas mixing ratio in there, it exlplodes. At our factory we always turn the oxygen a little bit up before killing the torch. Im sorry for my bad english skills. But im just a sheet metal worker from Switzerland.
@Torque5563 жыл бұрын
Can you adjust your flame saver to turn off the oxygen faster (or earlier) than the acetylene? That aught to get it to stop popping. The pop is the excess oxygen exploding.

Install a flashback arrestor at the end of the lines to the torch, bang problem solved. The paper shim made me really nervous. I was bracing for the key to shift and destroy your lovely power hammer. Could you add a retaining plate at the back, to prevent any chance of the key sticking out that side? Similar to that retaining plate on the front, but it could probably just be fixed bolted/welded in place.

That loud bang is just either the gas or exygen choking off first I believe. Wouldn't you be able to tweak the pressures on them a tad, or get a snappier set of check valves to close off faster. Maybe have one side close off faster than the other

The popping is from the excess propane in the torch head igniting inside it, to stop this you could turn off the propane on the torch and leave the oxygen knob alone when using the flamesaver. The oxygen will blow out the excess gas in the torch head so it doesn't have a chance to ignite and pop. Remember to always P.O.P.O. and not P.O.O.P. (Propane, oxygen, propane, oxygen) in that order when turning on and off a torch to stop the loud popping. Source: I'm a flameworker glass artist.
@nofunallowed33823 жыл бұрын
That pop that you hear is a too rich oxygen and propane mixture. It explodes instead of fizzling out. This is dangerous, because the explosion could travel up the hoses (known as flashback), and without the proper safety valves this could really damage your equipment, or worse. Before shutting of your torch decrease the oxygen flow a bit, and when reigniting it adjust back to the flow you prefer.
