Love the little "Erwin would not have been a Jaegerist" tangent, but you are 100% right. I actually found it to be a beautiful contrast that Floch and Hange die so close to each other: Floch being a "leader" who tried emulating a misguided understanding of Erwin's leadership (one that somehow a large portion of the fandom seems to share), while Hange being a leader that truly embodied the spirit of what the scouts were about. Through most of The Final Season, "Shinzou Sasageyo" has been misappropriated by Floch and the Jaegerists as a call to be dedicated to Eldia and Eldia alone. But hearing "Shinzou Sasageyo" from Levi to Hange one last time brought me back to when that phrase actually meant something inspiring and beautiful. It was a call to push all of humanity forward, and to put your all into doing so. It was a call to "dedicate yourself for the sake of humanity" not "sacrifice everyone else for the sake of your nation." Between Floch and Hange, Hange is the only one that lived and died by the true intent of that phrase.

Hange's death didn't feel like a sad moment to me. I was sad that they were gone, but I think in their final moments, they felt truly free. You could tell that being the commander of the scouts presented a horrible burden to them, and that was seen throughout most of the final season in their demeanor. Right as they got rid of that, they went back to being their upbeat, goofy selves. No longer with billions of lives on their shoulders, they charged into certain death, surrounded by the very titans that became their passion for most of their life. I think, in those few moments, Hange was truly free.

When Hange died, I feel that it's the end of the original scouts. Levi lives on as a representative, and I'd like to think that he got to see the world for all of them. But he is at most a remnent of the past. The scouts who had to fight in a complete darkness without any hope to get close to the truth are now all dead. Levi fought with them, but I'm under the impression that he cares more about them and the dead ones than the truth itself. Let's say that he cares about the truth at all only because they care enough to put their lives on the line for it. If it was just him, he definitely won't be curious or hopeful. Armin has the same ideal as Hange, but in my mind he's with Eren and Mikasa, and they are not the same as the old scouts. Together with the 104 trainees, they don't have to fight in complete darkness like the veterans did. As soon as they joined, the scouts started to see progress because of Eren's titan power. The old scouts have a special place in my heart probably because of this.

@@rimzaaah5892 Well... I think that Levi is overrated because no matter where you go Levi is always in the center of attention, people always talk only about him and praise only him- most of them even forgetting the fact that he's not even the main character in this show. While I do absolutely have nothing against people loving Levi, it makes me so sad to see how people tend to overlook other wellwritten characters just because of Levi's huge popularity. All they seem to see is Levi and Levi alone matters to them. The result of it being that a lot of characters don't get the love and attention they deserve, because Levi always ends up taking the spotlight to himself. If you need proof, just search up "Levi" and any other character you like, like for example "Mike" and see for yourself how much love and attention Levi is getting, while characters like Mike hardly get any love at all. Just look at all the merch, official art Levi has (he even has his own manga series called "No regrets") while other characters like Floch and Hange for example don't even have their own background stories, while being members of the main cast. I hope that I was able to get my point across clear enough. Please feel free to tell me that I'm wrong, disagree with me and state your own opinion why you think that Levi is not overrated at all. I am not enforcing my opinion on anybody. I have my own thoughts, you have your own thoughts and I have no right to tell you how to feel or think. I tend to use words like "overrated" in my comments a lot precisely to provoke people into arguing and stating their own opinions on different topics. I'll be honest, Hange's introduction into the show may have been the point when I went from liking to loving AOT. It is just so rare to see characters in fantastical settings that display a scientific curiosity and actions which we would associate with the production of knowledge. To often, such characters become the "nerd" within a story who is used as a punchline, but Hange, although sometimes being funny, became the "nerd" you wanted at your side so somebody can figure out, what the hell is happening. We are living in a world where unexplained "magical" things are happening, somebody has to step forward to start exploring them! I feel this would be such a realistic, if eccentric approach to scientific discovery in a pre-industrial society. *Spoilers for the end of AOT from this part on* When listening to how the other scouts learned to rely on Hange's intuition and resoursefulness, I was thinking of the scene in season 4 episode 10, when Hange visited Eren, while he was imprisoned. Seemingly out of nowhere, Eren grabbed Hange, yelling at them. This scene may be intended to be ambiguos, but it has been interpreted as Eren desperate asking Hange for a way to protect Paradis without the Rumbling. In a sense, I believe this scene conveys, if in a rather twisted way, just how much the scouts, including Eren came to rely on Hange's intellect and resourcefulness. Eren may have thought, if Hange doesn't know a way out, nobody else would.

At least someone has decency to make the title and the thumbnail of this scene non-spoiler and even give a warning at the beginning of the video. Unlike some view hungry pieces of shit that spoiled me what happens to Hange before i got to watch the episode

Hey! How do you not face Copyright issues using these scenes?
@based4560 Жыл бұрын
At the beginning of his videos he usually puts a disclaimer that his videos are used for fair use so he only uses it for commentary and research purposes so he avoids copyright issues. He didn't put it for this video but I think he's already done it so many times so even if he gets a copyright claim he has a reliable record and can say he was using it under fair use.

Untrue. Isayama has gone on the record to intentionally not disclose any details about their gender. He has instructed members of his editorial staff to not use gendered pronouns when referring to Hange. As such, I deem they/them pronouns to be most appropriate and that’s why I use them in this video. Source: www.dailydot.com/parsec/fandom/attack-titan-snk-hange-hanji-gender-debate/

Maybe I'm dumb but it was kinda hard to follow when you were talking about Hange or about the scouts as a whole. Was using they/them when writing about Hange a conscious decision or was it just the way it came out?
@conoro774 Жыл бұрын
It was a conscious decision. Hanges pronouns have been left ambiguous by Isayama. That's why Alec used they/them

Thank you this video completely defined Hange,this showed me points I've never seen before. When the beast titan was destroying everything,the needed a devil to lead them into battle for their home to survive.They needed the heart of the surgery corps to sacrifice himself and many soldiers for there to only be a tomorrow .But that wasn't what the scouts was all about, it was about hope and curiousity. When they learned of another world,a more advanced world so ahead of them that they needed to adapt to.Not only that but they also need hope to face this new world. They needed a scientist But most importantly they need hope and curiousity,they needed the spirit of the scouts. Now they need hope to save a world worth living and exploring,they have to save a world which they can dream in.They need hope and dream,now they need Armin the one who imbodies all. Seriously would a world which only very few people are left in,a world built on death and destruction only is not really worth living,They can't dream of far places they can reach,if all the beauty,all the hope in the world is gone. Hange and Erwin both left really important impacts on the story ,both necessary to the situation. I'm really glad She is really given the spot light and the time to shine.Im happy her death really impacted us,the viewers,it wasn't just forgotten.

Sorry, I know Aleczandxr uses they because you can choose Hanges gender yourself but it's so confusing. At first I thought he was speaking about the scouts but then realized he was talking about Hange. It's really annoying to listen to because my brain keeps on getting confused over the use of they.😅

I’m just using the gendered terms that are most appropriate for the character, that’s all.
