For the United States they are all Americans. It is a general culture that the United States takes the best of other countries to support their industry. As the famous saying goes, the land of opportunity. As such, nationality does not matter, but the quality that one has and contributes to the society of that country.

The most powerful thing about Birdman is this: it is a story about an aging actor, famous for playing superhero 20 years prior, trying to get back to the old glory. It is a real-life story of Michael Keaton, whose career went downward fast after two Batman movies and this movie indeed has began his return to the big stage, followed by Spotlight just one year later.
Michael Mercury If they keep making films like these let em all in I say! Land of opportunity.

For those who are saying Linklatter should had won let tel you that Iñarritu deserved it best. Linklatter did something historical, he desided to make a movie in 12 years but as a director he did nothing else. He just said: "Lets make a movie in real time" and no more; that is something a producer could say and thats why I wouldnt had replied if he had won for best picture, but Iñarritu was superior as a director. He needed to make extras, actors and staff people to be perfectly coordinated with the camera and when anybody made a mistake, he needed to stop the recording, get back to the previous place and check everyone to make his job, the way he wanted. Thats why he deserved it more.
@mjfilmmatics6 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry you failed to see the real achievement of Linklater here. Making a film over 12 years is not what made it resonate with people. It was about seeing how the passage of time affects our lives when we look back, look forward, and in the moment. And how that affects every member of a family differently, and even when we all change over time, some things about us never change. But most impressively, how you manage to take the journey without a script and construct from the details of those actors' actual lives combined with his own, with a vague understanding of how the end product will turn out exactly but fulfilling the vision and intention in mind. That's masterful fucking directing, and it's a kind of approach no studio would dare, except IFC. I wouldn't say one director did better than the other, they were both going after very different kinds of films with different intended viewing experiences and both incredibly executed.
@emigrant15106 жыл бұрын
All of what you just said is more about the script and the idea of the film rather than the directing.
@mjfilmmatics6 жыл бұрын
+Emi Grant Depends on how one defines directing. I see a bigger picture, there. Not saying one director did it better than the other, I am saying Linklater did infinitely more than 'nothing' as a director.
@emigrant15106 жыл бұрын
And I'm not saying that Linklater did nothing, I, however do see more in Iñarritu's work, though, I'm not debating that..
@AA-sn9lz3 жыл бұрын
@@mjfilmmatics exactly. Meanwhile, Birdman was shot to look like a continuous take, but that didn't serve any purpose. It's just you do it because you can do it. There's no real purpose to it. It doesn't aid or add dimension to storytelling. It becomes a "gimmick".

Jamie Foxx is American. Im talking about racism and prejudice against foreign cinematographers (specially Hispanics) and the fact that in order for the Academy to recognize their work it must be of extraordinary quality. In a few words American work and foreign work are not evaluated by same the samestandards.
@roomie4rent8 жыл бұрын
Martin Brizuela The Academy ONLY recognizes work of "extraordinary" quality, whether it's foreign or domestic. Hispanic cinema has long been celebrated in the US - the Three Amigos dominate the box office and are beloved by critics all over the country. You have a very skewed perception of things.
