i'm sorry, as much as I liked Boyhood, it should not have won just because it was made over a span of 12 years and btw, if you combine all the time they ACTUALLY spent making the film, it's the same amount as any other film. Boyhood was like a seasonal job, meet up once a month and they had 12 years to prove upon the script and work on others. Alejandro definitely deserved Best Director. And if boyhood should've won anything other than Patricia Heaton winning, Best Picture would have ben suitable in Producing terms not artistic terms as that was well-deserved for Birdman. But lets not also forget how much The Academy loves movies about movies/showbusiness
@hermangomez64249 жыл бұрын
Don't admire the film just because of its gimmick. However... it was robbed. Birdman was amazing, but Boyhood is a masterpiece, one of the best pictures made in the past 15 years.

Christian Boudreaux This was one of those years with two very exceptional films are up for Best Picture and Director... typically the academy is gracious enough to split the two awards... and had it done so, I would not be bitching. Birdman is a solid for Best Picture... so I'm not nearly as mad as I would be if any of the other six won (Especially American Sniper) however, I feel justice would have been served if Boyhood on Director and Birdman won picture... or vise verse... the fact that Birdman won both is what aagitates me.

I think I can safely call this one of the most experimental oscars ever many of these movies were straight up experiments the more you think about it, boyhood taking 12 years to make, Grand Budapest with its constantly changing aspect ratios from full screen to letter box, right on down to looking like it was shot on 8mm, birdman with its exceptional cinematography the camera never breaking or cutting to another scene giving the appearance of being shot in one take, I haven't seen movie making like that in a long time.

I loved Birdman, I can't understand for the life of me how some people thought it was boring..... I just can't. It's a masterpiece! to put an emotion such as the ego and portray how it goes about in our daily life, through the ongoing communication we have with ourselves, and the world. To be able and put onscreen the ongoing mind battles humans have, I mean what a clever and unique movie this was. I can't wait for the "Revenant"!!!!! I heard it was a bit too bloody and strong, but I'll watch nonetheless ........

I absolutely love this win and most of this year's big winners like not just Birdman, but Grand Budapest Hotel and Whiplash, which are all more outside the box choices. Usually, they go for prestige and sentimental over more cinematic filmmaking like when English Patient beat Fargo, Rocky beat Taxi Driver, and Dances with Wolves beat Goodfellas. So the first three mentioned films emerging as the big winners this year was a nice change of pace. Great job, Academy!

So proud that Birdman ended up winning! I also loved Boyhood but once you take the fact that it took 12 years to make it you realize that Birdman was the most innovative of the two. Inarritu is an incredible director and as a Mexican-born kid living in the US I look up to him and all the other directors/witers/producers (Cuaron and Del Toro for example) that arent afraid to make bold movies and tell innovative stories to the world, sharing their creativity and passion. Bravo Senor Inarritu bravo!

I love it when you see a movie totally snub in a particular year and then be seen as a classic as time passes by, even thought Birdman and Boyhood were the top contenders this year, it's very satisfying to see how Whiplash just has become the best rated movie of 2014 throughout all different critics and websites, and I think that's really what sticks in the end
@ericktellez76322 жыл бұрын
Birdman its better rated than Whiplash though, it paved the way to 1917 as well.

My parent's moved here in 1975. I believe they are part of those who paved a better opportunity for other's like them. My father learned English while I was at grammar school. My mother taught herself. My Great-grandmother(my mom's grandmother) passed away August of 2015 at the age of 98. When he gave his speech, he holds truth and it made me think of how she came over and lived and worked to raise the family she carried over to this day.

The difference between Birdman and Boyhood is that Boyhood is just a child maturing into a man, and the special short moments within childhood. Not that that doesn't make a great movie, but the only thing truly original about Boyhood is the fact that it's the same face over 12 years. Birdman is more deserving of the award because it's more original and unique than all the other Best Picture contenders. I believe if it wasn't for Birdman, Boyhood definitely would have won because childhood is so, so special.

For all those people who say Boyhood was not a technical achievement because it was a 6-month production spread across 12 years, if you think about it, it actually was a technical achievement. Just imagine what the editor had to do - assembling 12 different annual events together and connecting them into one long jounrey. The film could have felt choppy or like one of those anthology movies, but it didn't.

Here's my top 8 (and my opinions): 1. American Sniper (one of Clint Eastwood's best "shots", extraordinary Bradley Cooper, a deserved Oscar for sound editing); 2. The Grand Budapest Hotel (that genius of Wes Anderson strikes again, maybe his masterpiece, 4 deserved technical Oscars); 3. Birdman (without any doubt Iñárritu's best film, full of great ideas, awesome dialogues and with an amazing cast); 4. The Theory of Everything (2 marvellous characters/actors, a well adapted script and a wonderful music, still glad Redmayne won an Oscar); 5. Boyhood (more an experience than a movie, but what a great experience, deserved the award won by Patricia Arquette, Linklater should have won for best director); 6. Selma (an extraordinary and underrated true story with a memorable Martin Luther King played by David Oyelowo and one of the best original songs of these past editions, "Glory"); 7. Whiplash (maybe the breakthrough film of the year, with amazing groove, terrifying drama, a fenomenal Miles Teller and a memorable J. K. Simmons more vile than ever, for me not a masterpiece, but I think I should watch it again to feel it much better); 8. The Imitation Game (the 1st time it didn't get me as I hoped, but the 2nd one it did, another incredible biopic with wonderful actors and a well adapted screenplay rightfully awarded with an Oscar).

Boyhood: moving, well- directed, great performance by Arquette, incredible using of a song (Hero), stunning journey through childhood. Birdman: powerful, original, greatest directing of the last years, amazing ensemble performances (highlighting Norton, Stone, Watts and obviously the spectacular Michael Keaton, great score and stunning cinematography and screenplay The Grand Budapest Hotel: original, great score, great performance by Fiennes, incredible makeup, hairstyle and costume design and a good screenplay. Imitation Game: correctly directed, good screenplay, outstanding performance by Cumberbatch and incredibly good score. Whiplash: tension, amazing performance by Simmons, great directing and a fine editing. American Sniper: correct performance by Cooper, correctly directed, mythologizing a definitely not-hero person, Bush propaganda and a good sound. Selma: Haven't watched it.

Alejandro won 3 times: Writer / Director / Best Picture for Bidman beating Richard Linklater in those categories for Boyhood - whose supporing actress Patricia Arquette beat Alejandro's supporting actress Emma Stone. Both films won atleast 1 Oscar each.
