Hey mato, you should upload one of your own games against an opponent. I love to see 1 where you win, and 1 where you lose. I think the commentary would be PRICELESS

I find Alekhine's games very instructive. The moves are so precise even when situation seems so precarious. He just somehow sustains and comes on top.

Mato is Jeremy Clarksin of chess: witty, funny, entertaining and just so enthusiastic about chess games, that he makes others interested just by his own sheer enthusiasm and passion for the topic :)

Mato is way better than Jeremy Clarkson! Mato is hilarious without ever needing to put people down or resort to innuendos. And I bet he doesn't bully the people around him either. I agree that Mato has infectious enthusiasm though, which is wonderful.

Pawn gets pushed to an ox? Nope; a queen. Nothing serious; just Checkmate. Very funny, Mato! I really like how in depth you went on this game.

Gotta love these old school games. The Marshall Defense is still played : tweaked and refined, of course.

Qa7 is the problem, it is a direct threat of checkmate and leaves blacks king less safe if anything.

yepp. I think Alekhine push his Queen to e3 so he can prevent 0-0-0 He could have played pawn f4 anyway ( with Queen on d2 )
@elegomeskin8 жыл бұрын
Yea, 'cause we know what happened after he castled Kside. Also, I don't see a bulldozer that Alekhine can hop on.

So Qa7 followed by putting rooks on c1 and or d1 as well as Bb5 doesnt look worse instantly?

In 6:20 I found black bishop to E4 - check, and if white rook take, than black rook to D1 - check , than white queen must C1, and than black queen take C1 - check mate...

at 7:59 Alekhine could also have played BxR first or even RxB first and he would still have won. Which all goes to show what an amazing strategist he was, as he set up the position so that he couldn't help but win whatever he did.

Alekhine was a bad dude. I watch his games and he was the truth.
@fporretto8 жыл бұрын
Well, that makes it clear why we don't see Marshall's Defense to the Queen's Gambit these days! At first it looked as if it would have a Budapest-like structure, but Alekhine destroyed that hope pretty quickly.
@UnXPLO1Table8 жыл бұрын
A major difference is that, in the Budapest, White usually doesn't manage to exchange his flank c-pawn for Black's central d-pawn, thus the d-file isn't open, and White's e and f pawns can't 'work as a bulldozer' because the d6 pawn guards the e5 square.
@fporretto8 жыл бұрын
Ah. Good points. And that was a fearsome Pawn ram!

What do you mean?
@UnXPLO1Table8 жыл бұрын
@5:15 in the original version of the video, Mato was saying 'queen takes queen, queen takes queen, pawn takes queen' instead of 'queen takes pawn, check, queen takes queen, pawn takes queen' (on g7). He has edited that piece out and reuploaded the video so now there's no mistake :)

Even an average chess player can defeat opponents who make mistakes while playing. But it takes a brilliant player like Alexander Alekhine to beat an opponent who is also talented and playing equally good. Well, I guess Marshall has not made any significant mistakes in this game.

Yeah, Marshall always seems to get clobbered by the very very greats, but then he always made it interesting. Oh and he had that flashy move against Levitsky too.
