Public servants should not live in fear of being prosecuted for doing their jobs as the law requires them to do. The consequences of any effort to prosecute them would be immensely damaging to government operations and public services. This is the atrocious precedent that must be prevented!

Yeah but here’s the thing: For the sake of argument, going forward can we all agree that after Trump the idea of presidential immunity, resembling as it does something far too similar to that of a monarch, needs to go? So if we agree to reestablish the former balance of power without tossing the outrageous immunity ruling into the mix, I think it isn’t a reach to say that the current bizarre use of presidential pardons has also been inspired by Trump and his vengeance list. I think we can all agree that we have never in the past had another president misuse presidential pardons as Trump has and as he is threatening to do by not only threatening to release an enormous dangerous militia that attacked the Capitol on Jan 6, but to pardon others and imprison people (a whole other story). So if we factor all this together, we clearly have a unique set of circumstances that hopefully will NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN If somehow we can make it out intact with a functioning democracy and legal system. Meantime, we have to figure out how to put out fires, a lot of them, so the whole system doesn’t go up in flames and a lot of decent people don’t suffer needlessly. Then we eradicate all the ridiculous nonsense that never did have any Constitutional basis and move forward and shut the book on what will probably be viewed as a gruesome time in history for this country with a handful of extremely brave souls who made a big difference along the way. But I don’t think we need to get too worried right now about what it all means because NONE of this is precedented, we can’t view it as permanent, we need to view it pragmatically as what is going to be best to help us navigate from here to where we need to be in four years, globally and politically as a country?
