Your instruction at 6:47 regarding toggling between user and pre-set patterns was very helpful. I have a count in as a user pattern, but I wished to use a pre-set pattern for the drum beats. I was looking in the upper right portion of the screen and I could not toggle User on and off. Fortunately, you showed me that there is another place on the screen to look at next to the pattern number itself. I also discovered another interesting thing. If I am in record mode and press STOP , it rewinds to step 00. When I press PLAY, it plays out all my steps, but it also keeps recording the last step as new steps until I press STOP again. I made use of this my playing the song in my head while the SR18 kept adding step after step of drum beats. Appreciated

Thanks for this, this is how i want to work with a drum machine also so you have answered my questions 😊.. I have a similar 16 track and also want to look at how to sync via midi instead of recording onto the multitrack just to have flexibility when mixing but maybe it will get too complicated and it's better to go the same route that you have shown 😅👍

When you program your own patterns from scratch, I am still not sure how the fills work. Sometimes I will get a gap where the fill should be. But nothing plays for that short amount of time. I know the fills are automatic when using the presets. It's different when you are programming the patterns yourself. This is the one thing I keep not getting right.
@Rocktalk101 Жыл бұрын
So I am also still learnng more about how to use my SR-18 for me I will program my own beat and patterns but I will still use a pre programmed pattern with a fill that is pre done when needing those fills as I too am still sturggling to figure out how that works as well.
@lumberpilot Жыл бұрын
@@Rocktalk101 In step edit mode, I think you press the fill button and then you can pinpoint where in the beat you want the fill to start. I tried this but sometimes I end up with dead air for how long I made the fill for. It is definitely weird and I have yet to figure it all out.

Nice, thank you for the video! Would you comment the proccess of recording on the multitracker? Do you record mono or stereo? How do you sync the two? Do you start recording on the multitracker and then press play on the Sr18? Simples as that?
@Rocktalk101 Жыл бұрын
I run the sr-18 into line in channel of the multi track which is mono on the recorder get all my settings and volumes set and then yes just hit the record button and start the drum machine. But that is after I have programmed all my tracks and fills for the song in the SR-18 first. I do several pre test to get all the levels right and then when it sounds good to me I let it rip.

On preset pattern 47A, there's a subtle vibrato that you can hear on the bass. I've read the manual and nothing mentions anything about vibrato or pitch bends and im a little confused how they got it. Thank you for the video. 👍

Well I never use the bass I always turn that off I only use the drums so I can't really tell you what that would be.

So you let the tempo of the recorded Alesis SR18 serve as your tempo map? Or, are able to start the recording and drum machine so the click track on your digital recording matches/sync's with tempo of Alesis drum part?

no click track just the tempo of the drum machine.

I have one of these lying around at my house that i don't remember how i ended up with it. Since i play drums, is this worth me even keeping? I plan on getting those drum pad triggers and dont know if i can use them both together or if i should just get rid of it

Well if it was me I woudl keep it as you never know when it might come in handy one day. It is a great drum machine I also play the drums well I try to play the drums anyway but this has been a great way for me to record drums cutting out the hassle of having to mic up my drum kit moving pics back and for to get the position and sound this is a great plug in and play salution for me and has been a great tool.

When you transfer the drums to the recorder, do all of the drums end up as a single track or is there a way to assign individual drums to separate tracks as you would with a live drummer? How about for the percussion and bass? Can they be assigned to separate tracks?
@Rocktalk10111 ай бұрын
ok so to answer your question if you are programming a full song and then saving it in the machine then everything is all on one track and then it will all go on o track when you put it in your DAW or multi track recorder, Now if you use the touch pads and want to play each individual drum part on a seperate track then yes you can do that but it is a lot of work to do it that way. For me I just creat my full drum track save it in the machine and then record the whole thing on one track and that sounds great and works great for me. Hope that helps

Can you pick a pattern some way and then just add or take away a piece of drums like say a tom or hiatus? That would be super cool. Basically saving to user and then editing.
@Rocktalk1013 ай бұрын
Unfortunately I do no tthink you can do that when usin gthe pre selected /pre programmed patterns and yes that would be super cool and save a lot of editing time for sure. BUt what it does do is all you to set a click tempo and creat those patterns and you can add in one thing at a time till you get what you want which is basically what you are talking about just takes a little bit longer to create is all but it is possible. Hope that helps answer your question.
@garyclements3183 ай бұрын
@Rocktalk101 yes that answers my question. Thank you for responding. And if they ever incorporate a guitar loop, they will kill the market because I love changing pattern and drum rolls, and this thing has lots of good beats. Thanks again.

can you you program bass on the alesis 18 aswell
@Rocktalk1012 ай бұрын
it does have a bass section in it but I am not sure if you can program it or not as I have never tried. I prefer to play and record my own bass lines with a real bass guitar over programming them but that is a good question I guess I will have to see if that is possible but I do not think it is as I have never seen anyone say you could with it.

No Not really there is not that much difference in the 2 in m y opinion. Mabe a few more bells and whistle's but not enough to really make a difference if I had to buy one again I probably would have just got the SR16 myself. Not that I do not like my SR18 because I do but those few extra features that it comes with I do not even use. Hope that helps.

looking for a pdf form for song creation
@Rocktalk1015 ай бұрын
Are you asking me if I am looking or are you telling me you are looking? If you are looking I would have no clue about anything in a PDF form for song creation but there ae many programs out there that do song creation so I am sure you can find one. Me personally I do not want some AI type program writing my songs and music for me because then what is the point of being a musician or song writer when you are not the one actually writing the songs or lyrics. But hey that is just me and what do I know not much.
