Just wanted to say thank you for publishing these tutorials, it really helps someone new understand all of the possibilities for using Affinity Designer. I'm just getting into making vectors and these tutorials have tremendously diminished the learning curve.

Very nice tutorial. One thing you might want to consider is the order of your layers... example right arm should be top layer... left leg should be last layer. That will help your work flow. I see that you reordered the layers later in this tutorial. Good. Nice work.

THANKS! Just bought Affinity Design after having a really old copy of Adobe Illustrator not work anymore on Apple's new OS. It's a little scary to re-learn this stuff but your videos are definitely helping me muddle through it and learn new techniques. :)

I agree that switching to a new software can be frightening, but Affinity Designer looks and feels so familiar that the learning curve doesn't really exists. I'm sure you won't regret it!
@adagioscreen66094 жыл бұрын
i´m making my turnip man following your tutorial. your tutorials are amazing and i can understand your english very well. In my Affinity Designer i can´t add a gradient from the selection to the default Gradients Folder as you did. I had to add a new palet for that document and add my owns gradients there. perhaps it´s because my OS is Windows, i don´t know really. you are a very good teacher, it´s interesting and relaxing listening to you... sweet voice and sweet tone.

Have you tried to copy and paste the gradient you used in the body to the legs? Thanks for sharing.

Amazing tutorial. I really like how you actualy give us knowledge about layers and project structure. A lot of things I needed to learn on my own skin, experimenting and never could find a good tutorial explaining it. And I am not telling only about AD but all software in general. If you mess up your structure sooner or later(probably sooner, I mean if your'e lucky :D) you will have a reaally bad time. One thing I still find difficult with this approach is fast recolor of whole image. You still need to find all the color curves hidden in your layers and let's be honest this is a really simple vector. What would happen if you would like add things like clothes that overlap few layers, shadows, lights etc. I hope you have some answers to those problems too because I can't wait for another one of your tutorials! Also If you have too much time on your hands I would really need a mentor like you(simple fast talk or checking out art or two with tips on what I can work a little more would be great :))! Teach me senpai(or something like that)! :P
@alecaddd8 жыл бұрын
Ahahaha, thank you so much for this wonderful comment. I'm no Senpai at all :P I'll show my approach on quickly recolour a finished character when the Turnip Man is completed, but I think this is one of the most common issues in vector designing. The "trick" usually is to use only few colours and then manage all the details with blending modes, and just creating black or white shapes. But that limits a lot the ability of creating dynamic colour ranges. About your last request, unfortunately I'm super busy because I work full time as a Lead Developers. I would love to be an educator full time, but it's something that probably will happen in the future...I hope. Thanks for watching!
@chriscuthbertson7 жыл бұрын
The advantage of using the blending mode for the gradients is that you can change the colour of the complete body and it will change on the arms/legs etc.
@alecaddd7 жыл бұрын
Yes, it all depends of what you need or what kind of style you want to use. Cheers

Ive cut out the logo i wanted but hot do i drag the logo itself? instead of just the outline? Awesome teaching brother. keep it up.
@alecaddd7 жыл бұрын
The logo and outline should be in separated layers, be sure that your layer is not locked, if it is, you should see a small lock icon to the right of the layer.

Hey ty for this Video I really liked it but can you explain me how you can fill the turnip man with colour without razterizing it? because i tried to fill my Shape with colour but found out that I have to razterize it before I can fill it with colour. But I did not see you razterizing your shapes one? Because the problem with razterizing my shape is that I cannot change the shape anymore.
@alecaddd6 жыл бұрын
You can control the filling and border color of a shape as soon as you create it, you shouldn't have any problems with it. Check my Playlist about Affinity Designer to learn how to use it.
