Hey, I don’t know if you remember me (I was the guy who asked you about your songwriting process outside Radio City after the show) but I wanted to take a moment to explain to you the true impact that your music has had on me (I felt it’d be a bit too much at the time to drop such a huge load of emotions, and words, and stuff at once). I’ve been a fan personally since four pink walls and have been listening to know-it-all near consistently since its release. However, lately I’ve personally been going through a bout of depression and I’ve seemingly become tired of the monotony of life and was ultimately feeling happy with myself as a whole. It was after I saw you at Webster Hall that I truly felt inspired. To see someone my age, controlling the stage, performing their heart out to people who felt the songs on a personally level is something that pushed me to better myself as a musician (a dream that I had quietly put away for some time), so that I could hope to influence people in even an eighth as much of a positive way as you. In these past few weeks though, the depression has spiked hard on me and I’ve essentially lost all motivation again. From a library full of music, I started listening to only a select few albums, on a seemingly infinite repeat; one of which was Know-It-All. I just kept coming back to it because it was an album based on your experiences, both good and bad, yet gave off such a strong vibe of hopefulness and ideas of a bright future through the overcoming of obstacles; something that I’ve seemingly lost sight of in myself. Since then I’ve been burning through song ideas because I want to achieve, in songwriting, what Know-It-All did to me; inspiration. One of the things that people look for in music is relatability. Thusly I wanted to write an album full of what I’ve been feeling so that someone out there could possibly relate to it and, if even for just a moment, feel as if that they’re not alone. Feel something, whether it be in happiness, sadness, laughing, critical thought, or whatever else, which hopefully in turn might inspire them to do something for themselves as well (perhaps creating a cycle of inspiration). And again, through the constant listening of know it all, and using you as inspiration, I’m slowly, but surely, starting to feel a lot better about myself. Knowing that someone had been in some situations very similar to those that I experienced, it gave the idea that, I too, could rise above the negativity of the world, and myself. Because of that I’m starting to imagine, more clearly, a future for myself where I could use music to impact people in a positive light, a future where I’m happy and confident with myself; and I have you to thank for that. Now, on a grander scale, I want to say thank you again, on behalf of both myself and anyone who has ever felt anything by listening to your music. Thank you for everything that you have done musically, this past year and a half or so. Thank you for being the one to use your platform to stand up and make a statement on society and encourage and inspire people across the world. Giving them the confidence to find peace and happiness in who they are. You’re giving a countless number of people a voice that they might not have had previously and that’s amazing. The best part is that your career is still just beginning. Your influence will only grow from this point on, which means that there will be more hearts for you to touch and more lives to be changed for the better, by giving them the personal strength that they didn’t even know they had. (If you read this thank you. Now I go back to my five hour energies and endless stream of college papers #killme)
