Speaking as a Peruvian neighbor (I'm Brazilian), Acuña is an example for Latinos in North America; a great musician and person, carrying the quality and legacy of Latin music to all corners of the globe, just like my compatriot and session musician himself, Paulinho da Costa. Acuña and Da Costa played many times together.

I think I saw Alex with Weather Report in Royal Oak Michigan one cold winter in 1976-79, I don't remember. The thing I do remember was what a technician the guy was. I thought he was from Hawaii, for all I knew. But I liked what I heard. Today, his enthusiasm is still there, maybe more than ever. The guy is one professional, and as I have learned, one heck of a human being too!

Alex Acuña is a fantastic percussionist. All around drummer. I got turned on to Alex in the Weather Report band. Played wonderful percussion with that band. This Track is a very creative Musical Concept from the 80's for sure. Takes me back to when I was in my late 20's. Alex dynamics in syncopation and in the pocket drum accents is great drumming.
