Alex Anderson LIVE - Hand Quilting Class #4 -MarkingTools & Thimbles

To do hand quilting right you need to mark the quilt with your designs. How does Alex do this? Plus, hand quilting is hard on the...hands and fingers. Are there special thimbles you can use?

First hand quilt project ever, I'm trying Crayola washable markers. Bonus 12 colours, $8 or less. Hope it washes out, not concerned if it doesn't.

Thank you for all of the wonderful tips! I will definitely get a silver pencil. You mentioned that one time the silver pencil didn’t come out and you washed with something and it came out. I tried googling what I thought you were saying but must have the spelling very wrong! Lol what did you wash your quilt with that removed the silver marking?? Thanks in advance.

What about the mechanical pencils that are sold at quilt stores?

My issue with thimbles is that if I but one on, I will then use another finger.... so I use medical tape

I have only had the iron away pen leave a white mark, twice. Both time on batiks. But both times it washed out. I agree that the chemicals don't disappear just because you don't see it anymore. But I find it does wash out. But if it is a quilt that won't be washed? Yeah, don't use.
