Alex you are as entertaining as ever. I recently lost the use of my right leg, being my pedal foot I thought it was the end of machine sewing as I found it really difficult controlling the pedal with my left foot. Seeing you persevere and continue doing what you love has just given me the kick up the arse to go get my Bernina 700 out and teach myself left foot control. Thank you for that my friend. All the best.

After the World Wars many makers added different methods besides foot controls. Singers added a bar to the machine that you could operate with your knee or arm. Today many computer machines can operate without foot controls, you set the speed and press go & stop. Keep strong and carry on. Happy sewing. 🦹🦹🦹🦹

Got a kick out of your lengthy rabbit trail about your most recent medical appointment. I just had a CT scan on my head for an upcoming dental surgery, but thankfully no lakes in the parking lot. Thank you for showing the action on the Bernina; I hadn't given them much thought before, but that one looks like a great machine. The appearance also reminds me of mid century Necchis.

I hate CT Scans. Picturing your flowers blooming might help put up with such a miserable experience. You have such a wealth of knowledge about sewing machines. I love to hear your stories.

Love your stories! The movie your referenced, The Long Kiss Goodnight was awesome! I remember being stunned by the proficiency with which Gina Davis’ character assembled the rifle that was in the case - it was one of the best “Ah-ha!” moments in the film! You are such an entertaining storyteller that I could listen to you read the phone book! 🤣🩷

I enjoyed this so much. I guess I had thought you were just a SINGER man. I got my first Bernina this past summer. It is a Bernina Record Electronic 830.OMG! I just LOVE it. I have Featherweights, Babylock, Brothers, Kenmore. But this new to me baby, oh my lord it’s wonderful. But heavy!!!! Now looking to sell my Ivory Featherweight to trade for a Bernina 325 to take to guilds and classes. So happy to see you in such a good frame of mind and up and about. Cheers from Canada.

Featherweights are lovely but few machines beat Berninas. 🙂🙂

Hi Alex, fab video. I've just got a Bernina 801 for my birthday. She's beautiful, and runs better than my Brother NV1100! I'll be bringing her for servicing as you're local to me. Get well soon🥰

Another advantage of the presser-foot going up and down, is the following: when combined with the special darning-foot it makes the most excellent darning machine. This foot does not have the usual up and down spring mechanism, because the up and down movement is already built into the presser-foot rod. Isn't that brilliant? Darning is my hobby and I think the Bernina's with this feature are the best darmers of all. Never a problem with darning! By the way, on many machines the mechanism that controls the up and down movement of the presser-foot rod, tends to get stuck in the up-position, when the darning foot hasn't been used for a longer period. When after this period, people suddenly start using the darning foot, it will give terrible results because of the stuck up and down movement of the rod. The solution is to oil it, get it unstuck and recalibrate. My advise is to give it 0,5 mm more than is officially advised. When this has been done, you'll have the best darmer ever!

Thanks for saying that it's a brilliant built-in feature.🙂🙂
