I think alex bregmans swing is so compact because of where his lead elbow is. Most people have it past their neck, but he has it further towards the pitcher than most. Im experimenting with that on the tee to see if it helps me stop being so long around the ball. The one swing i recorded was more compact and the armbar didn't happen until lag with the bat :) So i believe it helps you stay more compact, just don't have it way to far up or it'll hurt ya.

I teach this swing at my place, love the tight swing and mechanics he does. It’s tough to teach kids to keep the path with hands in proper position, it takes time, but the key is letting them develop. My parents are extremely patient, and now after a couple months the kids are beginning to see progress and success. Time and good reps are the key

Bregman is an exception. Front side mechanics creating a low lead elbow until late in his rotation. This keeps his knob down early and causes him to never get to 90 degrees early connection. Therefore not able to get bat on plane early and deep in hitting zone. He is a freak enough athletically to only work with half of the hitting zone. And have success. IMO Soto is an example of great front side mechanics early leading to knob up early and barrel in hitting zone deep. Matt I’m talking about the part of the swing that you always refer to as “working back” before the barrel comes around the deltoid. Mostly front side mechanics that allow that to happen. Josh Donaldson talks about it when he appeared on MLB Network.

Hey Matt it’s Coach B up in MTL and as always really enjoy your stuff so keep up the great work. The reason his swing doesn’t give the same appearance of depth on this clip is due to pitch location. The bat follows the line of the shoulders and on an inside pitch the shoulders turn sharply to get inside the ball to allow the barrel room to go directly to it and drive behind the ball as apposed staying square and rotating around outside of it. Because of the alignment of the shoulders he is cutting the corner and catchers glove is no longer a reference point for barrel depth. I believe if camera angle was from behind and off to the side it would give different appearance of depth. Great video and I’ll be referencing it with kids Thanks 👍

Hunter Bruyere he hit over 290 on the ROAD last year. Look up their whole lineups stats. Altuve hit 381 away on the road in 2017. Not a astro fan but it’s obvious that the banging didnt matter all that much. After all they didnt cheat on the road (no access to video room or cameras). Gurriel was a great hitter in cuba before he defected. That banging isnt reslly a big deal. Plus 8 other teams were said to be cheating with technology. Logan morrison blasted manfreds report and said the dodgers should stay quiet along with the yankees since they cheat too

AdrenalineJunkie i don’t even want to waste my time with someone who is as stupid and defected as you but look, the Astros used buzzers on the road in the 2019 World Series. Go look it up on KZbin. And oh so that banging didn’t really affect anything? Oh ok so let’s put your team up to bat knowing when a fastball is coming and when the other pitches are coming and let’s see what a difference it makes. And you are just stupid for thinking other teams cheated. they did not, what’s so hard to understand about that? Let’s say the dodgers and Yankees did cheat, they didn’t do it as bad as the Astros because in their gemes you can’t hear any banging buzzing or whistling. You are just on another level of stupid and go know what you are saying first before you actually say it

Yo Matt, love your videos! Is there any way you can break down my boy Whit Merrifield’s swing sometime? Dude is underrated, and also led the league in hits. I know you as a second baseman will be able to appreciate a guy who plays the game like Whit does on offense and defense.

I agree 100% with you that it is amazing how quick he is and by perfecting that late barrel turn and shortening the depth of the swing he is able to hit this out of the park. I think it would be tough to hit it out with any other type of swing. However, when we talk about turning the barrel and matching the plane earlier, the depth created means if we aren’t on time we can fight it off either early or late. By shortening the depth he isn’t on plane as long so I feel like he has less margin for error when it comes to being on time. Maybe the benefits outweigh this though I’m not sure? It is definitely interesting to break down his swing.

I think you see the bat path but you don't look at your first shot draw a line down the bat THAT is similar to the back swing plane in golf he then goes from a to b quoting Bergman himself though hitting zone draw a line up bat through his body similar to shaft plane in golf you mention knob of bat what gets it there? Front elbow same as a pitcher quarter back or javelin thrower then through the ball it would do you good to look at Ben Hogans book especially concerning the swing planes it is not so much the ball plane as it is the ball path by moving into the funnel he created he is then in a position to react to different pitches very similar in respect to swing planes as in golf

@aidanboettcher7990
@aidanboettcher7990 4 жыл бұрын
Andy Beckito here’s what I’ve learned (year of college baseball). You can “coil” around your back leg and just be spinning around your back leg and creating no power. I believe the coil Matt is talking about is more of activating hips (that’s how I think of it anyway). As you stride, an almost pinching feeling as your hips activate will help actually load and make your legs more effective. In this movement, there is no spinning and the legs stay linear, but you are still activating your hips and using your legs more effectively. Hope this makes sense and helps you in any way!
