Good vid bro. It's crazy how many good riders become victims of sugar phobia. I've got zero talent but my high carb low fat diet lets me do ok with my genetics.

Great vid. Honestly, I love the content you've been making. I would love if you did some race breakdowns as well. It would be awesome to get your perspective on the tactics from a coaches perspective (energy expenditure, power output, impact of effort and how you can train to deal with the things that happen)

Interesting insight. High fat and protein with very low carbohydrate diet does sound very difficult to maintain, sounds like this more well-rounded approach is much more effective for Alex (and many other athletes presumably)

If the metabolic enzymes which process carbs aren't being used (low carb), then your bodies natural adaptation process will reduce your ability to utilise that pathway with efficiency; thus efforts which require glycalitic power zones (Threshold & above will suffer.

💯 Seems simple right? Funny how it's pretty much gone full circle now

This pro cyclist comes across slightly depressed. I wonder if that is just his usual demeanor or if it is from the training and dieting.

Not enough carbs means not enough serotonin and or dopamine = depression. He looks absolutely cooked sadly.

Hard to tell just from demeanour, people think I'm a grumpy bastard in real life all the time (but maybe I am 🤣 🤷🏼♂️). But generally depression in pro sport, and cycling, is fairly common and not often talked about. We saw just recently with the unfortunate passing of Olivia Podmore from NZ, it's a real issue.

Very interesting 🤩 Maybe someone can help me: i am 98kg 1.85cm, i can't lose weight!! No matter what I try it goes doesn't go away.. i run weekly 3-4 times + 2 rides incl. Endurance 2h. I tried to eat intuitively and its 1600-2000 calories which is much lower than my BMR. I burn around 3000-3200 daily in average. By undereating my body feels sick, lethargic and weak, so i tried a low carb.. didn't work. I try natural foods and most of them are low density... it looks that it doesn't matter if i eat low calory or high calory - weight is the same +- 1kg. But if i eat ice cream - i gain rapidly. P.S. i tried to eat a 2000 calory diet plan - i can't finish this amount of food, stomach feels full and it feels like to eat full cake and then that feeling like you overate. P.s. Yes, there are problems with digestion, it works like in pulses: sometimes goodz sometimes like full halt PLEASE help to find what to eat.

Keep your fat intake very low under 20g a day and can reduce protein intake slightly aswell. Eat as many carbs as you want.
