My Old man loved this gentleman, and I thankfully saw what my old man was on about. We need mavericks in this life and I personally aspire to capture A bit of Alex's life. okay we like A drink and A wee bet on the horse's.Not fancying Envoi Alan this year at the festival but to all my Irish brothers I hope that he is our banker this year as we may not attend but we'll still cash in this year. Luck of the Celt's.

A true legend and maverick. Wore whatever colour of shirt he wanted just because the Snooker Board insisted on white shirts. As someone once said, the only way to make Alex wear a white shirt was to ban the wearing of white shirts 🙂
@MrArchie800 Жыл бұрын
He'll probably join the exclusive pub in the sky with Oliver Reed, Peter O'Toole and Richard Harris, and no doubt they will all end up drunk and getting into a big punch up 🙂

People talk about Davis 6 and Hendry 7 times the champion to assess greatness. But Alex Higgins was 25 times the champion...the people's champion. And as long as those people are passing their memories and stories on, and as long as people still have access to the old footage and modern documentaries, the record books will always be wrong. Alex wasn't twice a champion. 25 times the people's champion.

Never mock history. It's always helpful to know where roots are from. Family roots, sports Roots, and from these sports roots come the history of snooker. Higgins is an indelible ( look it up later ) part of the history of Snooker.
@kevanbrown76204 жыл бұрын
Well said Grouse The Ghoul,I think in this day and age of X factor and social media it's more important than ever to respect and learn our history. Alex was a true pioneer,a naturally talented snooker player who took the game by the scruff of the neck from working men's clubs into proper arenas and 18 million viewers on television, I remember watching him win the 1982 world title and was so happy to see that iconic image when he was crying asking for his baby. I am so glad Alex and Jimmy White bonded over the years, my two favourite players. Snooker owes a huge debt to Alex Higgins, let's hope that's never forgotten. God bless Alex and thanks.
