When Jimmy White was in a sweet spot, his cueing was so smooth, so intuitive, such a joy to watch. This 147 is legendary and I clearly remember as if it were yesterday seeing it live on BBC television at the time. John Virgo as the commentator...what happened to all these legends? Its easy to forget, with all the often deserved hype around Ronnie, that Jimmy was another "most gifted player to ever pickup a cue", we used to marvel at his technique is accurate positional play and potting. I dont think there is another player who hits the white so low on nearly all his shots, if i did that i would mis-cue every time lol. Never foget and its no disrespect to Hendry or Ronnie, that if Hendry had not been around, Jimmy would have won a few world titles and a lot more too.

Without doubt the best ever player not to have won a world championship. He just couldn’t quite pull it off, Steve Davis, Stephen Hendry and Ronnie O’Sullivan were the main reasons why. Any other era and Jimmy would surely have bagged a few championships at the Crucible. That was an amazing clearance, a lot of tricky shots played beautifully and quickly. As for Tony Drago, an incredible show of sportsmanship and class. You don’t see this shown in any other sport, excepting possibly in golf, Tony is a top bloke!!!

Classic 147 and so pleased for him. He may never have won the World Championship, but I think he lacked the killer instinct and that edge that you need to win them. He won everything else though. I agree with what Steve Davis said about him never winning the title. It was just plain, old fashioned bad luck. Jimmy was always the right player, in the right place, but at the wrong time and always got the best players in the final on top form. That's just bad luck, even though he blew it really on that missed black. I think that was the weight of fan's expectations, which Jimmy said himself got to him a lot of the time. He was anxious and afraid to miss it so he rushed it. A pity, but doesn't change the fact that he is a snooker legend. He was around for two separate eras, Davis and Hendry, and not many players can say that, if any.
