4:08 it’s crazy to think that Alex started out thinking “I wanna BE Matt Groening” because whenever I think about the career I’d like to have, I think “I wanna be Alex Hirsch”.

The story behind the original pitch for "Double Dipper" makes me appreciate how far writing in cartoons has come. Like, in the 2000s a character being "too mean" was seen as a virtual non-issue. "It's a funny cartoon! Everyone's supposed to be over the top and CU-RAY-ZAY! We aren't making Barney here."

I love listening to him talking about the shows and people that where huge inspirations for him. And how much he loves to build up his friends and other people who work in animation. It's just so inspiring and makes me an even bigger fan (if that's even possible 😁)

Mentioning the Pure Moods compilation not only made me cackle. but it simultaneously gave me a flashback of watching that commercial in between my favorite cartoons as a kid. Thank you for that! 😂

I literally love this. Hes talking about the realistic aspects that we constantly don't hear about when in film/television. I was scared to get into writing and animation but this reallyy gave me some closure.

I'm a Film and Video Game Design major but Alex Hirsch and Gravity Falls is a big inspiration for me. Though this is talking about animation, so much of this can be applied to any creative activity and I love listening to it.

I think cartoons like Gravity Falls and The Simpsons absolutely change people's lives for the better. I wouldn't be an artist if it weren't for cartoons telling amazing stories, so they've definitely changed the lives of people like me. Sure, they're not directly saving lives or cooking meals for people in need, but they're so important in a more subtle and very human way by telling stories and making people feel happy or sad or whatever. Loved hearing Alex talk, everything he said made my mind buzz with inspiration 💚

That has to be one of the most helpful, insightful, valuable and eye opening interviews I’ve ever listened to! Alex is such a stand out character and I love his way of approaching things in the animation world. As a soon to be animation student (I’m a few weeks actually) this was absolutely INVALUABLE and I will be saving this to listen to over and over again at university, and will be taking so,e serious notes. And I gotta disagree with Alex on the idea that animation doesn’t change lives in an as impactful way as say charity, because it has a butterfly effect. I don’t think he realizes just how massively his world has positively impacted SO many people’s lives and pop culture as a whole 🫶🏽

This is a fantastic interview! It was only over the past year that i realized I wanted to work as storyboard artist for television. I'm 23 and didn't go to art school and have no industry experience otherwise, and this was surprisingly reassuring. Loved the point about aptitude. I can draw, but i'm not an excellent draftsman, but this helped me feel like i could still get work my way in

Loved this video and love Alex so much! His work is really an inspiration to me and I still cry whenever I see the end of gravity falls. You guys should have Dana Terrace on, she’s really great at representation in her show The Owl House and I haven’t seen enough interviews/podcasts with her as the focus. Keep it up guys! ❤️

Alex is so relatable! The same is happening to me right now in collage, you think you're good at drawing and then you meet people way above your talent level, it's overwhelming and gives you a pressure to get better non-stop. I agree Alex is inspiring ( ^o ^)/
