I have to say, his advice about trying and failing and trying and failing and then walking over the corpses of your failures.....it's just what I needed to hear today. Was feeling a bit down, opened up my laptop and happened to click on this... Alex Hirsch, you are one cool dude. Thanks for uploading this talk!

As someone who works in animation he's extremely rude and shitty to a lot of people around him. I've seen him literally scream in peoples faces. You gotta remember that while they may produce great work you ultimately don't know any of these people and who they really are.

Even as a young person not interested in going into animation his talk was very inspiring. When you're thinking about your future and doubting your ability to succeed this is exactly the kind of thing you need to hear.

this had such an impact on me that every time I'm being lazy or trying to postpone my projects, my mind just says "dude. dude. beard death. you want that?" and I start my work right away. because I believe I wouldn't look so hot with beard.

His out of breath voice cracky voice at the start of the video, 2:15, sounds a lot like Dipper which is pretty appropriate considering he based Dipper off himself but pretty ironic considering he doesn’t actually voice Dipper. Also, his Justin Roiland/Morty impression at 14:00 is impeccably hilarious!

quoting undefeatble lyrics: "Running from the past is a losing game, it never brings you glory" "It's time to face your fear" "And when the story ends, it becomes a part of me I'll give it what it takes; I'll find another way I used to never know, but now it's crystal clear This feeling's just a ghost. It's time to face your fear"

Alex Hirsch and his work inspired me to start writing my own script/ pitch bible for my own show/shows, I am 16 and I started thanks to him, storyboarding, animating, draw and draw all thanks to him. I f I could meet him and talk to him I would ask him everything, I am from Croatia and I hope my work/pitch goes into Disney.

this was so inspiring, as a writer who couldn't draw if her life depended on it (but still wants to create an animated show)

the same thing happens to me, but the other way around. I draw well, but when it comes to scripts and ideas, I'm just ehhhh neeeeeeehh??? im trying to improve at that... I'd love to write good scripts, make my own epic series, but well, I try to think that it's something that I'll improve over time yk? :(

A very enlightening talk, thank you, Mr. Hirsch! I just started an animation program, so I really appreciate getting to hear from the perspective of someone who's worked for so long in the industry. Fun fact, just to correct the record: Oregon actually does have redwoods! You can hike on the Redwood Nature Trail down by Brookings, near the southernmost point of the coast.

Me: Eh seems cool but it’s a bit long may watch it late- *watches the whole thing* LONG COMMENT WARNING! Read at the digression of your attention span! : Jokes aside this is really insightful. Not just to animation but to story telling as a whole. I think I’ve learned a lot from this, and have realized why I can’t even manage to come up with a decent idea lol. The fear hydra is a really big problem for me. My own anxiety, perfectionism, and procrastination have stopped me from making amazing stories. Sometimes I forget that making a story is something that comes out of a place of passion. I kept wanting to make something so …perfect. Something that would get a big and awesome fandom. For hours I would keep over analyzing what makes stories like Gravity Falls so successful, that I realize I lost what gives the medium of storytelling its soul in the first place. I honestly can’t be more thankful for this advice, and I hope that one day I can be the one to inspire someone else one day. Thanks for reading my long ramble. Kudos to you for getting to the end
