Lesson 1 How about you pack it together, explaining how to balance it and weighing the value of having some things on hand verses the literal weight in your bag. Lesson 2 Tricking a child who trusts you for multiple painful days as an object lesson. Do they learn the object, or do they learn not to trust you? When I was about the same age I had a mentor trick me publicly as an object lesson. I certainly heard what they were trying to tell me, but what's stuck with me and effected my behavior from that day forward was the broken trust. There are people you should be able trust. A father is one of them.

Pulled this gag a few times. Standing in formation with packs for long hours, we'd pick a guy and slip one rock in at a time. After a few hours he's going man this pack just keep getting heavier. When he finally realized something was up, wed slipped at least 50lb of rocks in there lol. He was not happy.
