Excellent overview of the terrible effects of a well-intentioned but ignorant electorate.

I'm thankful someone is actually exposing the financial influences and specific textual changes(Definitions, Criteria etc.) being brought forth in law changes related to sex offender registries. Like the one on disclosing passwords to online accounts. Anyone with a brain can see the potential for abuse that raises among other Constitutional violations as well. North Carolina recently had a few laws changed related to their Online Identifiers act wherein the law vaguely made it possible to convict any sex offender for simply using a social media site. And another that prohibited offender from being within an area children/minors congregate that was so broad an offender could have been charged(with a felony) for crossing the street if a bunch of youths were gathered on the other side(not exaggerating!), not to mention denying them basically any rights to practice religion in a place of worship if 3 or more children/minors gathered there. The recent amendment to the law now states a list places that are off limits including public libraries, parks and museums. Why? Because All sex offenders go around stalking and kidnapping children/minors at libraries and public parks(Sarcasm). The federal government estimated about 50,000 people reported missing in 2001 who were younger than 18. Only about 100 cases per year can be classified as abductions by strangers.(Thats about 0.2% for those who can do math and combine that with the fact that even smaller number were abducted from public places like parks or libraries). And the majority are kidnapped by parents in custody battles. Treating everyone on the registry as if they are potential kidnappers is neither appropriate nor even remotely effective at preventing a crime that statistically doesn't even involve sex related offenses. It's a public placebo that doesn't even work at making people FEEL (Australia did an interesting study on sex offender registries in other contries) safer let alone actually achieve the intended effect of a safer community.

Wow that's a lot of good research and good points. I've even seen how on the subject of illegal images, they are all online, some are just reedited, and all law enforcement pretty much have a huge stockpile of various drives that have the images. They dont realise that it is already out there online and they can't catch the producers cause they are all overseas. Yet they refuse to accept the fact that illegal images will never go away because they are out there online forever so busting people who only have a copy isn't going to stop it. Plus I've seen how the law used to give out those things in magazines to test people then bust them after someone failed by ordering more. It's all cruel, wrong, amd needs to change. From the laws to getting rid of the registry that does nothing at all. There are even kids under 18 on the registry who will never really be able to live a life because our laws make it impossible for sex offenders to truly live a happy life. Those under age on the registry who haven't even graduated high school are even worse off than adults. It's crazy

This video really has shown me how insane those laws that were made off of people who only wanted to really get rich off of something that has nothing what so ever to do with sex offenders. Constantly making more laws to punish sex offenders and restrictions to practically either have them locked away forever even for not being able to live in a place someone could have lived for years at. They practically force the offenders to kill themselves or have to try to leave the state entirely. Almost have to even leave the country which isn't easy either. Society and the system needs to stop treating human beings who have paid their debt even for misdeameaneor crimes like cattle. To stop constantly punishing them and letting people with secret agendas profit off of making insanely stupid laws into effect. It's like a murderer can get treated far better and reintegrate back into society after so long yet a misdemeanor sex offender crime pretty much has them made into outcast forever. To have human beings constantly forced either in prison longer or thrown into a mental hospital forever even though their debt has been paid. The conditions they have to live by are insane and the saying that they can reintegrate back into society just ends up being a huge lie. Having millions of tax dollars wasted on even misdemeanor crimes and the harm on those who truly wouldn't ever offend again for the rest of their lives are still being punished even into their elderly age. It's so wrong and breaks my heart that it will happen to me because of these insane laws as well as the stupid political people trying to push their own agenda to get richer.

The more I see the more it's true. Not just the registry but the laws as well. Allow true reintegration, forgiveness after serving your sentence, and give back the rights every citizen deserves.

Only if people actually knew the TRUTH behind these fear/money based laws... they would be more sensitive towards them. Only people who care about issues like this are people who have loved ones, family members, etc.. on the registry... As it easy as it is to get put on the registry soon everybody will know someone on that registry that DOESN'T DESERVE TO BE ON THERE...

I will agree. Everything I see has my heart breaking at the lives ruined because of how sex offenders who have not committed anything new fir years are continued to be punished by the system even for just a few pictures. That a murderer can be welcomed back into society and reintegrate back. Yet sex offenders are punished forever and the system tries to come up with newer ways to keep even first time offenders locked away forever even after paying their so acclaimed debt to society. Even saying that all of It is the same when it's not and not all of the offenders deserve to be punished the same. The misdemeanor offenses should just be punished accordingly and not treated like they are as bad as serious offenders. It needs to end and needs to change. It hurts families and tax payers alike. Minor offenses that should be misdemeanors shouldn't have to suffer forever nor be continually punished long after serving their time. All thise who are getting rich off of throwing bodies into over crowded prisons and treating living humans like they are nothing more than cattle should be illegal.

Where are the social measures to prevent sexual abuse cycles from repeating in families & treatment of children & young adults at the beginning of behavior indicating child & adult pornography addiction or sexual abuse behavior if siblings; no where. These measures cost money and there is no $ to be made in prevention.

That really interesting about the Internet password and what the Judge said, I completely agree that someone internet use, should be protected by first amendment, we should not have to share our usernames with law enforcements. Hard to believe not reporting a screen name in 24 hours would cause a Class E felony.

Often the laws that registrants are supposed to follow are unclear. Also, they differ from state to state. In this case, not revealing a username within 24 hours seems draconian.

and now you can talk about those who were not convicted because the arrests in the first place were utterly illegal.

@@NARSOL well it's not just in the areana of sexual offences. Years ago, I read the May-June 1995 issue of the Minnesota-based Utne Reader magazine, where former New York District DEA Chief Michael Levine wrote about the War On Drugs infamously begun by Richard Nixon. Mr. Levine wrote about "the legions of belly-crawlers in Government employ". The CIA flew in the heroin from Southeast Asia and Nixon's DEA (and other agency) snitches aggressiely sought out customers destined in the context for prisons such as Attica. Several years ago, I watched a Fox News ride-along with a cop (a 30-minute evening news program). While I cannot remember every detail these years later, one scene will always remain - the Fox News reporter was a woman, she heard and saw what the police were doing, and asked the cop how can they do such things which were illegal. He replied (and I remember these words exactly) - "If we went by the law, we would never catch anybody", I have hired homeless men whom I got to know over a period of time, I have had experiences of my own, and I could - and probably should - write much more about this. You know, once someone becomes a victim of Government crime, I don't have to tell you the consequences, but when that person has also worked for the Government in certain positons, they may be in a position to do some impressive things in response. That is what has taken place, whether you or most of the American people know it or not.
