A man who manages Rangers does not underestimate the rivalry between two teams who are from the same city. Did he not see the rivalry when 4,000 blues fans stormed the pitch to get to the vile vans that night, talking bolloks Alex... But he has to be respected for the carling cup win, despite his horrendous error of judgement in the June that followed

Speaking as a villa fan I felt sorry for him that it didn't work at villa for him. The fans were shocking towards him and I never joined in as it wasn't justified. He was let down by randy Lerner and the board like most managers were that followed mcleish. I was pleased we got him from you guys as he won a trophy with blues who didn't spend alot of money and in the end went down due to injuries. It just didn't work. I feel like villa have ruined his career. No villa fans can hate him either as it wasn't an easy job at villa

A lot of people don't know the full story behind the villa thing and when I found out I felt bad for him. Villa were in disarray and Gérard Houllier was going to have to retire due to I'll health. Villa were a poisonous club for any manager and hardly any manager with any good reputation would want to go there with the expectations and the atmosphere of failure. So Lerner realised that as villa were heading for relegation, what about that wee Scot from across the city? The one with a proven track record of getting promotion out of the championship, the one who's taken an unfashionable Blues to within a win of their first proper silverware after a 9th finish, the one who wouldn't have to relocate. So Lerner met with McLeish to see if he wanted the villa job at the end of what looked like a relegation season. It was agreed that both Blues and villa fans alike would be positive about it. Blues fans would praise McLeish if he could deliver the cup and laugh at villa for having to be bailed out by an ex Blues manager. Villa would laugh at pinching Blues manager. The carling cup win secured it. McLeish would join villa at the end of the season on a high after what he'd achieved with Blues. Problem was, villa somehow found form and got themselves away from relegation trouble. McLeish then realised he'd be betraying Blues for a city rival in the same league. Word is he tried to back out of it but Lerner was having none of it and threatened to go public about the pre final meeting. So McLeish was distracted the last few months knowing he was heading to a job he didn't want. This explained his woeful management at the end. Relegation for Blues was actually better for him in the end. And he failed at villa out of spite.

He gave us our first League Cup win since beating the vile in 1963, the players burned themselves out and being Blues we made history for all the wrong reasons. going to the vile only made it worse but..... KRO Blues!!
