The prosecutor questioned the disgraced lawyer’s brother about his recollection of the investigation, focusing on what he knew after the murders and what knowledge he had of his brother’s lies.

John Marvin has been through enough he was at the scene of the boat crash with the police ,he was also on the scene of the car crash ,the accident with the house keeper and had to clean up after the murder of Maggie and Paul . Exactly!! Why was Alex there before the murders, left but somehow came back to find them killed then stayed around for the police.. if some other person killed them and was out to kill the whole family wouldn't Alex be in hiding?? If your family was killed then why not be scared and hiding somewhere so the killer(s) can't find you.. Unless the only time he'll see the killer is when he's looking in the mirror...

Alex's brother states: "Alex believes that the legacies of all families is important." If this is so, then why did Alex steal millions from other families? Obviously, Alex thought his family legacy was more important. He was stealing millions from those families so his wife could remodel the home in Edisto while many of those families he stole from could hardly afford to eat. The jury should have been made up of people from those families; however, they would need a bigger courtroom.

When I first started researching this case and then listening to the trial every day, I was convinced that Alex Murdaugh killed his wife and son and then couldn’t bring himself to kill himself right afterwards. But then, the state’s case, especially the motive and the fact that there were two long-barrel weapons used, I started to have doubts. My mother, who was an assistant DA for 20 yrs and a criminal court judge for 10, agreed. The stare’s motive made absolutely no sense. Plus, why would Alex murder them? He got no insurance money. There was nothing to gain. Plus, everyone who testified who knew him testified that he loved his wife and sons. After hearing Alex testify and now his brother, I absolutely believe SLED rushed to judgment, esp after they realized he’d lied about being at the kennels. There were hundreds of people who had more motive to see Paul dead, and Maggie was just there.

@franziskani

he was at Moselle because he is a very close relative. The police opened the scene the next day, they were done. I find that shoddy police work, but the family was free to use the premises and all things on it as they wanted to. The space where the body of Maggie had been, was relatively clean, grass. The body of Paul had also been taken, but there was still some brain (or other tissue), blood, parts of skull (not sure about that). He asked if he could clean that up, and got the O.K. police was done with securing evidence. John cleaned up these remains because police had NOT done that (I read that they have resources for that). When they take the body for the autopsie they are supposed to take those small parts with them or remove them. Cleaning that away was his way to honor his nephew. After a while his brother Randy came and told him to stop it - he did not think it was good for him. (likely others watched John and it upset them that HE had to take care of that). After that police could be bothered to finish the job that John-Marvin had started. Maybe they did so voluntarily, but I think not, they were supposed to carry out that service and didn't.

He believed and still believes his brother is innocent. HE was then not able to recognize how devastating the video was and that it meant that his brother had indeed killed his son (the nephew John-Marvin clearly loved) and his wife. For him it was not "the sky opened and lightning struck me" moment - So he did not remember the time of being shown the video, because it did not seem to be highly relevant. As in: changed the course of the investigation and he has to change his opinion about his brother. A fond memory, then his nephew was still alive and he and Maggie did what they loved. I do not know if the celltower data and car GPS data was analyzed by that time - I hope so. I very much doubt police shared their insights with their main suspect or the relatives that love him. Cell tower data also confirms what the kennel video shows, and gives extra insight into the timeline. I do hope they did not tell them what celltower data, car data, and the step-counting app showed. What that meant for the timeline that evening. IF Alex M. told the truth his statements would align with the evidence. If his statements continued to contradict the evidence, that was an important piece of information by itself. The kennel video is better for prosecution, it is more tangible and it gives extra information (dog with chicken, the floor is a little wet, Paul stood with the back to his father he may not have realized that Paul (still) recorded). As opposed to showing the jury the timeline only with the celltower, track-the-step app and car GPS data. I wonder if John-Marwin realized that the owner of the dog Cash waited for the better video of the dog. And what that meant regarding time of attack. WE saw the testimony and can fit it into the timeline and the theory. Paul tried this and that, dog lover Maggie was there, they would not have left the friend wating, and they wanted this solved. Paul did not get around to finish and upload a better video (showing the tail of the dog) because he was killed before. Likely starting at 8.49 or 8.50 pm Police had not told John-Marvin that this was the meaning of the video, so he was spared the realization and shock that his brother is a killer. WE have the advantage of having an aggregated timeline, it gives a good idea, pieces of the puzzle fell into place. We can rewatch parts of the trial or videos. John-Marvin was shown the kennel video, maybe he realized that it was recorded at 8.44 pm, maybe not. He likely was NOT told that by 8.49 the phones went "inactive" and why that was so important information. He may not even have connected the dots that his brother never told him that he went to the kennel area before visiting his mother. O.K. it was the last time he saw family alive, but John-Marvin would not go there and talk with Alex about "when did you see them for the last time" for fear of upsetting his brother. Maybe police informed John-Marvin this video showed events his brother had not talked about so far - maybe not. He was clearly not part of the killing or planning. He is innocent and loved the deceased, he is certain that the same is true for his brother. He did not have the benefit of watching (and rewatching) parts of the trial and commentary. Likely this video to him meant a memory that likely made him smile / tear up. The moment when it was revealed to him was not so important. (he also smiled when he remembered hunting with Paul.). What did you do when you learned about the twin towers being hit ... this video was not in that category for him. With the benefit of hindsight, it had that importance for his family.

In the police body cam, At 0:09 Alex turns and walks away from the prime spot to have shot Paul. He would have been standing there reliving the moment. As a fire bug, would have watched the flames burn. Its really terrorfying how the police officer does not order him to the ground to cuff him, as Alex literally has a smoking gun there leaning against the car, and keeps walking over to it. Had he been arrested like the rest of us would have, Alex would not have been free to use his phone to call in his FIRM to walk all over the crime scene and the second crime scene, the house. He knew exactly what to do.

It came across to me that John Marvin is more emotional about the deaths than Alex ever was. I believe that he thinks his brother is innocent , which i do not. It is like Happy Wanderer said; he is in complete denial of what a terrible person his brother is. For example he said that if someone at the law firm reported that Alex had said that his fathers condition had taken a turn for the worse then it was she who was lying rather than Alex. It has been proved time and time again that Alex lies with impunity, but despite all the revelations which have come out even in this trial they still seem loyal and to genuinely respect him. I think it is more than likely that Alex was the murderer. His denial of his presence at the kennels being the biggest red flag. However I think the verdict will probably come back hung jury. Apparently some jury members were falling for his acting when he took to the stand and it only takes one jury member to cause a hung jury . Alex has been a successful manipulator virtually all his life even to the extent of having his family members under his spell. A jury who have not encountered sociopaths and who are not familiar with their modus operandi, along with weak physical proof may lead unfortunately to him getting away with it . Fingers crossed however that the jury work it out.

Either sled was unqualified to be anywhere near this case or for some odd reason they intentionally turned their head to these things. Unbelievable

They got him convicted by interviewing witnesses, figuring out what was missing, finding gun casings, identifying which guns were not there, etc. It could have backfired if they were hard on Alex right away. Dave Owen got a lot of video of him talking away. This family were playing everyone with their smoke screens, moving cars, etc. Finding Paul’s and Maggie’s DNA in their own house would have been explained away.

@@cindyeastbourn7642 pating him down would not be usual (they had no warrant). He was a person of interest, sure. But they were a) very deferential and b) some of the officers in the first 2 days were incredibly inept.

I wonder if him and his brother met up or contacted each other on the day of the murder?

Not in person before the murder. By phone yes. Alex called John-Marvin when he drove to his mothers house must have been after 9.15 pm. They had a short conversation. (Alex initiated those calls - and also with his friend Chris Wilson - to back up his alibi. Both confirmed that he sounded normal.
