The reality is the SNP have achieved absolutely nothing in terms of independence over the last 10 years. Instead there was an arrogance of power developed over that time, the SNP were too used to winning that they forgot HOW to win. The independence supporter vote was taken for granted but after 10 years of negligence of the issue many have had enough, myself included.

A huge factor in the low turnout was the voter photographic ID fiasco. The unemployed and even many in paid employment have neither a passport,a driving license nor any other form of photo ID. This was blatant disenfranchisement by the government.

Yep, something I've said all along; lack of proper communication does not inform the public as to the way Westminster limits and corrupts Scotland. They can't just say "It’s due to Westminster" they have to give the exact reason as to why and then present the alternative. For instance, Westminster holds Energy Policy which means high prices for our electric/gas whereas an Independent Scotland could and should have its own Nationalised Energy Provider. Thus, giving us cheap electric for home and business use... think of the advantage there... one which Westminster does not want Scotland to have as we'd have a huge boost in business growth, and the Government itself would be making an income from selling the electric.
@eckie4679

Sorry that’s not right. Energy is in the hands of huge cartels that are bigger than most countries. Sad but no country in the world can now tell the energy giants what to do. The whole world is interconnected

THE SNP knew they could not win in the last election with vote for them 1st and2nd vote .They MUST have known . The more seats won in the1st vote the less seats you get in the 2nd vote .In Scotland the second vote is not proportional it is a handicap system The SNP vote can be divided 7,8 or 9 ,Lab/tory vote by 1,2, or3 ! The system is already worked against us .The D,HONT voting system is meant for an independent country, not a devolved region/colony . That is why Tony #@#@Blair gave it to us .Half the population do not understand how the system works . They still believe the second vote is proportional . if ALBA had been given the 2nd vote we could have had a majority of 12/16 seats, easy. That would change everything and would look good in the international scene

If there was such a voulentary annexation this is what the British establishment cant get away from. there is no such creature in international law as a voluntarily annexed nation . No such thing as the lawful voluntary annexation of an entire nation. Even a treaty says that, and the treaty of union says no such thing. so what are the rights of an annexed nation in International law ? A nation Annexed is a colony what ever other colonies might look like. An Annexed nation has to the right to International assistance.

Scotland has a future? It doesn't feel like it just now. The SNP has indeed lost any credibility, not before time, and trust has been lost. I keep thinking that if Alex Salmond would just say the worst decision of his life was to hand the reins of the SNP to Sturgeon. Not as a drama, just to bring some reality in. It may help boost Alba credibility. People are being beaten down by westminster rule, with little active economy to have a future with, and the SNP stagnation over these years has resulted in worse despair or a lack of care. How can any reasonable person think its fine to be ruled by a foreign country, yet we passively accept our lot with no way out.

Is there any way to get a move on with the damages case? There's no reason to hold off in hopes the SNP will bury the hatchet. And the money would no doubt be useful, while the publicity could also be utilised. Getting the identities (and connections/sponsors) of the Alpha Betties out in the open, would still assist in opening a few eyes too. ALBA need to offer radical change, in 2026, and need to be very visible on the ground in all localities, between now and then.

Alex Salmond when he was the leader of the SNP said don't split the independence vote as it would let British nationalists labour, Liberal and Tory MSPs and MPs in. Now he wants to split the independence vote. Reform split the right-wing vote and the Labour and Liberal Democrats won a lot more former Tory seats. Alba has been attacking the SNP for the last few years this has not benefited Alba the party that benefits is the Britnat Labour party. Alba only got 0.5 % of the vote in the 2024 general election and no Alba MPs were elected. Alba only got 0.7% of the vote in the 2022 local elections in Scotland and no councillors were elected. Alba got 1.7% of the vote in the 2021 Scottish parliament election and no Alba MSPs were elected.

Kenneth I is traditionally considered the founder of Scotland, which was then known as Alba in Gaelic, although like his immediate successors, he bore the title of King of the Picts. It was Donald II that first bore the title of King of Alba as recorded by the Annals of Ulster and the Chronicon Scotorum.Kenneth MacAlpin is believed to have been born around 810 on the island of Iona, which is part of modern-day Scotland. After his father's death, Kenneth succeeded him as the King of Dál Riada. His coronation took place in 840 or 841.

Looking on from Australia, I've noticed Scotland still has a homogeneous population. That’s great. The 2022 Census showed that 87% of the population identified as Scottish and other white British people. I suggest Scots try to keep it that way. Many white Europeans are being demographically replaced by mass immigration in Germany, Holland, France and Sweden. And look at the major issues in those nations with the high rates of crime of foreign-born nationals.

The question I have is just how strongly do the Scots really want independence? I think there needs to be leadership and a strategy to mobilise around. I recall something Gordon Brown once said about how independence was evaluated by Scots and his conclusion was 'five hundred quid' that you could buy independence support by paying them 'five hundred quid', that support was really shallow. I am sure that was the cynical assessment of a burnt out political failure - however there does need to be a strategy, engagement and leadership. Independence will not fall into our lap. Real support does tend to decline when there is a recession and increase when economic prospects improve. The Scots Parliament does provide a vehicle to improve economic prospects and to drive support for independence going forward. But they need to mobilise and work hard to galvanise that support. I am really not sure the current lot of SNP MSPs are up to it. They have become too comfortable. They may need a spell in opposition to drive the hunger for independence again. Wouldn't it be powerful in Scottish Labour started to demand new powers as well? I think there needs to be a unified support from the nationalists and Scottish Labour together to move things forward. It does lead to the conclusion that devolution has not automatically led to independence but actually diluted the demand a bit. The real hope lies in the demographic split in opinion with unionism being concentrated among the over 65s! As the elderly Unionists die off we could very quickly get to a 60% support for independence and that support just needs to be mobilised. I have no doubt that another referendum would have only one result- which is why they won't easily grant one!
