Alex Ross did it all, achieved all his goals by the time he was 30. He is a blessed dude with talent and a burning passion to comic books. Long live AR.

"and those guys are just workers!" Anyone who like me grew up watching Battle of the Planets (and the electric company for that matter ^_^ ) was blown away seeing how almost every episode starts off introducing us to a bunch of incidental background characters who are all slaughtered wholesale in a matter of minutes. Alex, thank you SO MUCH for helping this show come back untouched.

Grew up watching BOP as a kid in the 1970's ... it was as powerful to me then as a drama is to me today ... extremely visceral and with some pretty heavy story lines at times. That show has never left me and formed a massive part of my childhood consciousness - Jason was my favourite member then and remains so to this day some 40 odd years later. The Yanks did the same thing to Gatchaman as they did to the Original Australian Mad Max ... just couldn't leave it alone.
@julietfischer50564 жыл бұрын
The moral guardians wanted bland kidvid heroes. That's why Mark could do no wrong (even when he was plainly wrong) and Jason was a hotheaded complainer. And they concealed death and injury as much as possible.

That last line is SO POWERFUL…. If you love something so completely, and put ALL of your passion into creating something related to it, an homage to it, and do so with a pure heart, your effort WILL be noticed, and perhaps, celebrated. It’s true. I hope you find this out for yourself, and are able to enjoy the good feelings that explode out of what happens next.

Honestly Alex Ross commentating on the ADV dub of Gatchaman as he draws some of his murals for the series is the most Based shit I have ever seen in anime. I remember watching Gatchaman during the 90s post-anime ban Korea where it was translated as Eagle Five Brothers. It was one of my go-to series next to the Brave Series.

As Fred Wolf tried a follow-up on "Mach Go-go-go", I could imagine someone approaching Alex Ross to do storyboards for a stateside "Gatchaman 21" or "BotP 21". This comes from the same line of thought that imagines Matthew Lilliard voicing the field commander in either hypothetical project.
@floydjohnson7888 Жыл бұрын
One of the most pervasive urban legends holds that the original Gatchaman scripts often had G-4 (Jinpei) telling Galactor agents where to shove it and/or telling dirty jokes.
@johnturtle66493 жыл бұрын
kingdom come and earth history X were great novels. I too watched battle of the planets/gatchaman as a child, and boy, it stands the test of time. I can't even relate to people nowadays how it was the progenitor of power rangers. They were the quintessential color coded five person superhero team, driving mecha. Interestingly, shogun warriors were licensed from marvel to use Spiderman in their own show. He is NOTHING like our Spiderman, and eh even has his own giant flying spider mecha robo. Anyways, i'll stop being nostalgic now. One of the best things about Gatchman to me was how the female superhero, Jun, only needed to be saved exactly once in the entire series. She wasn't forced to be the helpless female eye candy, she was an integral part of the team and always pulled her own weight, like every member did.

The bot was added for one to soften the series but also because by the time they got done chopping up the episode through censorship the episode was to short to air... so they needed a way to fill the time gap as well as explain all the missing info from any deleted scenes.. Hence the buggy botty... Just watch the uncut complete Japanese version... its better..
