Alex Sarr Is The NEW Projected #1 Pick | Early Season Highlights

Sarr continues to produce for Perth, winners of nine of their past 11 games, stringing together some of his best games of the season in December. He plays a compact, efficient role as a cutter, roller and offensive rebounder, with plenty of freedom to demonstrate his versatile skill set pushing off the defensive glass and facilitating as a passer, making perimeter shots in a variety of ways, and showing his excellent footwork and soft touch as a finisher. Sarr ranks among the NBL's best shot-blockers, but he is highly switchable on the perimeter with his quick feet, long arms and outstanding mobility. Adding strength and becoming a more physical rebounder will be important, but it's difficult to nitpick his play too much considering his productivity versus high-level competition in a situation in which he's not just being spoonfed playing time. Sarr's continued improvement this season, overall consistency and outstanding NBA fit playing a similar role to the likes of Evan Mobley and Chet Holmgren makes him a safe choice currently as the potential No. 1 pick. -- Jonathan Givony

Regardless I think Spurs fans should prepare themselves for another losing season as the Spurs will probably want to be to take part in the Cooper Flag sweepstakes. They do have ATL 1st for 2025 but we don't know if they are gonna be a lottery team next year.

Rudy Golbert is a 3 time defensive player of the year yet during the playoffs he was on the bench a lot because he couldn’t shoot or move laterally fast. He was then traded to Minnesota who’s a better defensive team yet they still bench him in favor of Naz Reid because of his shooting and playmaking ability.

I really like the idea of Sarr playing in Portland with Simons, Sharpe, and Scoot. They should get him a lot of open looks and with Toumani, Walker, and Sarr the front court would be pretty solid all around. I think the blazers should send Brogdon to the Knicks for the frp, srp, and Fournier, then send the Knicks and GSWs to whomever and trade up for the #1 pick, it's not the best draft class but Sarr seems to be the best pick and he fits Portland really well. On the bright side for him he would and should get plenty of minutes as a rookie center on a team needing another one badly

What a lot of you guys won't realise is - Alex Sarr's coach has absolutely done him dirty this season. His coach in Perth (Australia) is John Rillie, and his team (the Perth Wildcats) has a very good track record of success in the NBL. Rillie is an old school coach, and the NBL is very much an "Old Boys Club", where veteran players get too much respect. Some teams are more forward-thinking than others, but Coach Rillie especially is not one of them. The slow, old, white Australian men that are playing more minutes than Alex Sarr is just ridiculous. Rillie has seriously tanked Alex Sarr's draft stock. There are some nights where Rillie plays him 7 minutes per game. It's really frustrating to watch as an Australian hoops nerd! Sarr is clearly more talented than anyone on the Wildcats roster.... but Rillie hardly plays him. The team hasn't been good, but Rillie persists with "veteran experience" instead of playing the young guys (Alex Sarr and Ben Henshall), who are clearly better than the slow, old vets. Ben Henshall is an NBA player too, but only the NBA teams that have done their research would know.... because Perth Coach John Rillie doesn't play him AT ALL. Henshall dominated the NBA Academy Games in Atlanta last year, and he's killing his draft stock by sitting on the bench in Perth watching slow old "experienced" white guys play over him and Sarr. Being Australian, I've watched a lot Sarr.... and he is clearly the #1 pick for those that have seen enough of him. Henshall should be a late first round pick too.... but he might go undrafted and end up an undrafted steal for an NBA team that has done their homework!
