Quarterback Alex Smith recalls the sting of hearing criticism from Jerry Rice, trying to lead his team despite dysfunction throughout the entire 49ers organization and how it got so bad that he looked forward to playing on the road, away from the boos of 49ers fans.

Robert Montoya I like the niners organization I’m a die hard patriots fan, but I despise joe Montana and the way he treated Brady who was Brady’s idol. I never seen such a spiteful distasteful asshole pissy and mad about his records being broken and being salty to Brady who Brady identified as his hero that really disappointed me, but that has nothing to do with niners organization itself it’s just him personally I dislike. Records are meant to be broken and he was a classless asshole to someone who looked at him as god like.

kap was the typical 1-2 year wonder running qb. the defense eventually caught up with him and he became exposed. the problem is that this is what happens to most black athletic qbs. they rely on their athleticism and it carries them for a few years in the league but they never develop as passers.

As a 49ers fan, this interview has me thinking about the current QB situation with Jimmy Garoppolo. Ever since the announcement of the trade, the same fans that were rooting for him in the beginning are now turning there back him left, and right. A lot of us didn’t learn our lesson from what we did to Alex Smith, instead of giving him the benefit of the doubt, we completely throw him under the bus. As 49ers fans we need to do better, I know, and I understand that it’s been tough for the past several years but no player like Jimmy G deserves the hate he’s been receiving. Give him the respect, appreciation, and most of all be careful what you wish for.

I talk about this all the time. Our fanbase has historically, since Steve Young, turned on our QBs in favor of who we want to be the next Joe Montana. It happened with Alex, Jimmy, probably going to happen to Purdy the second he makes a mistake. Our 49er fanbase is a young QBs nightmare lol

I feel bad for this man his entire career he’s been compared to maybe the greatest quarterback ever in Aaron Rodgers. The 49ers screwed him over for Kapernick and the Chiefs dumped him for Maholmes. Right or wrong the dude deserves better considering he is much better then the game manager the so called experts tagged him with. The Redskins got a good one although they had one with Cousins.

Mitchell D Rodgers has every tool a quarterback has ever been given. He has only had a top ten defense maybe twice in his career. A GM that refused to go after any top notch free agents, and a coach that had hamstring this team for years. He has done more with less than any quarterback in history. Rodgers will easily go down as a top five when it’s over.

Amen, I was sceptical of Alex at first back in the day but later on in his career when the 9ers got more stability you could see how good he really was. Hats off for getting us through the worst period of 9ers history.

I was laughing my ass off when people really thought Kap was a better option for the 49ers than Alex Smith. Say what you want about him checking down all the time but he got the job done with stability. KC were instantly Super Bowl hopefuls, and people forget the Skins were on top of the division before Alex Smith got hurt last year.

I've been a 9er fan since birth. I like Alex, but it's true. Kap was incredible, and there's no way we get to a SB with Smith. Kap had the biggest comeback ever in NFL PLAYOFFS history at the time Down 17-0 to Atlanta in Atlanta. We never come back from the with Alex Smith. They were also down like 26 to 6 in the Super bowl and we were 5 yards away if we had just give it up to go or we would have wanted Super bowl then. Alex Smith was always like 15 to 20% on third and shorts his whole career Nice guy but he got pushed away in Kansas City and he got pushed away in Washington and there's a reason for it

Anybody still think we should have DRAFTED RODGERS after hearing this? With his personality type, he would of never made it on the 49ers during those dysfunctional years. Alex Smith is pure class.

The ironic thing is that many of those same 49ers fans who booed him now romanticize him, just because of their hate for the guy who replaced him

Alex is so damn underrated I was so happy when he was traded here and at that time I realized just how stupid the 49ers are to trade this guy and put kaep in center, I am still and always will be a huge fan of Alex, he can be inconsistent but he is also the only quarterback in history to march into belichicks Gillette stadium and leads an offense that put up that many scrimmage yards on them, after dealing with cassel and then hearing bandwagons and fairweather fans not knowing about that and hating on Alex, but he came here dealt with your bullshit and led this team to many playoff seasons, and how is it his fault when he doesn't have time in the pocket, in New England the line finally does so good and gives him time and what does he do? Give one of the best games of his career and I knew he could do it, I really hope he gets a ring with Kansas City, love them chiefs!
