I don't think people really pick up on what he does because the sound of his drums gets mushed together. Whenever you hear him by himself practicing you get a clearer tone and are awed by how simple he makes it look. He's an all around musician because he is a classically trained pianist so his jazz drumming is great also. He also has a brilliant mind for building his sets as they are the most amazing out there. It would be great to have a poster with every set he built put on there together.

Just search for isolated drum tracks, then you'll hear it. The unaltered drum track from KISS Alive! has placed Peter Criss firmly atop my favorite drummers list. I've heard Kenny Aronov make mistakes in person. I've heard Steve Marone make mistakes in person. Alex. Lars. But I have seen the original KISS lineup live 17 times and I have never heard Peter screw up once. Nor Bonham, Moon, or Ginger Baker. The GREATEST don't screw up.

The sensitivity of the Simmons drum pads were not that great at all. If you hit the pad lightly it sounded just like it did when you hit it hard so all he has to do to accomplish that sound is to do a buzz roll. That's it. Those pads could make a bad drummer sound really good. Not saying Alex is bad at all, he's great but I never thought he was technically proficient. But a lot of drummers stopped using those pads because the technology wasn't quite there yet to give a drummer the actual feel and sound of a real drum from an electronic device. It wasn't till ddrum and Roland came out with their electronic drums that the technology had advanced enough to give a real feel and sound. So the part you're talking about sounds amazing but ask any drummer, a buzz roll is quite easy to do. Hope that helps.

If its a challenge to try to play more creatively i have no problem with small kits. But i agree for most of these new hipster drummers, playing boring grooves with a childish stiff technique

Different style of music calls for different approaches. But yeah u still see bigger kits in metal.

Big kits means nothing, most of Legendary drummers have small kits

I have a massive 3 up two down kit on a whole big rack system but honestly I prefer to play on a 1 up 2 down or 2 up 2 down kit it allows you to transport it better and forces u to be more creative

the guy is a power hitter,his sticks are like bats..,
@hannes17347 жыл бұрын
paul lebel I have these sticks. They have a lot of rebound on the snare and help you really much achieving that AVH snare sound, but on cymbals they really don't sound good as the tip is big and round.

I always found it funny/ridiculous that not just during the drum solo but throughout the entire Without a Net video Alex didn't hit any of the eight octobans even once.

You can hear Neil Peart in all of these solos. Talk about an influence.
