You know what I love about this man? He's a virtuoso-level musician, but he doesn't mind sacrificing technicality for the sake of a good song. Not many good musicians are willing to do that.
@spmSLL9 жыл бұрын
He actually said something really interesting about some of their recent stuff. In order to avoid getting stale and repetitive, he sometimes tries to challenge himself technically in the hopes of pushing himself out of his comfort zone writing wise.

This gentleman is such an educator...besides being one of the best bassists on the planet, he articulates so well...The way he describes chording is exactly how I do it...for effect...and the importance of mids...HUGE. Mids are what cut you through the mix...and how he describes "being where you need to be" is insanely important...knowing when to come up in the sound and when to clear out of the way for clarity...Cheers Alex!

Alex also knows his instrument and theory like a madman. Just watched a CC documentary and they are no doubt talented, down to earth, intelligent, articulate, and seem like great guys. Point - don't have to like the music but offer respect when it is due.

Some people can't play with picks, like my self. I just get more of a sense of the rhythm with my fingers and i can accent certain parts a lot better (switching to a quick slap or pop). Honestly, i should dedicate some time to practicing with a pick to improve because i feel as a bass player, you should be somewhat well rounded in all styles IMHO.
@midibudu12 жыл бұрын
i think that use pick on bass is not bad, it depends of what tone you whant, or if its easyer to you to play with a pick, suport finger and pick \m/

@Th3RussBus I had that problem. What i did to correct it was to take a rubber band and loop it around my 1st finger and take it out of the equation. Obviously, you don't want it so tight that it resticts circulation. Next, I would warm up with a song, usually something from Iron Maiden, specifically The Trooper because of all the triplets. Finally, I would set my metronome to a low tempo on 1/4 notes, and practice alternating the 2nd and 3rd fingers to promote independence. Hope this helps.
