Only Alexa can produce a better image than Alexa Even the classic Alexa, which has been in production for more than 12 years It still produces better images than all the competitors

Wow, what a fantastic camera! Incredible image quality and I really like the two accessory systems. Well thought out in every detail, small, easy to use and so adaptable to many different use cases while still keeping everything open for older accessories and third party ones, that’s awesome to see. I also loved the presentation, it really stands out. It‘s authentic, fun to watch, entertaining and packet with a ton of information while feeling rather light and not at all overwhelming. You guys at ARRI nailed everything.

Unfortunately I wouldn’t hold your breath. This is all hearsay but from my conversations with Arri it seems like there won’t be a LF body built off of this sensor due to technical limitations in the sensor design. The next sensor to go beyond Super 35 will most likely be a ground-up design, which means years of R&D, testing, design, and implementation. In short, if you want LF, the Mini LF will be a safe buy for a while, and the Venice 2 will probably be safer for longer if that suits the sort of work you’re doing. The ALEV-4 won’t be dethroning either in the Large Format game any time soon.

The ALEV-4 sensor technology is remarkable. The only issue is that I wish the AlexaLF and Alexa65 also had a new revision that used it (with other various upgrades of course) instead of being stuck on (the admittedly fantastic) ALEV-3 sensor tech. I’m sure all of that is in the pipeline and will just take a long time to develop and produce properly.

Considering it’s a 1.45:1 sensor, I’d love to see this camera eventually paired with a rear anamorphic. I think there could be a great balance of image area and resolution with minimal distortion. Would love to see what people do with the Alexa 35

Copying from another comment response: Why would they? It’s not their market, it’s not their demographic. Rolex doesn’t make cheap watches. Bugatti doesn’t make cheap cars. Boeing doesn’t make cheap airliners. Apple doesn’t make cheap computers. You can argue all day about the merits of each purchase and the value-to-cost comparison, but all of them share an elevated brand position that works to their benefit, and making a cheaper camera would hurt that brand. Not to mention, all the things we love about Arri cameras probably wouldn’t be available in a cheap body; they’re expensive because they don’t compromise. Arri will continue to make tools for professionals, and that market is insanely price elastic, so Arri will continue to charge what they want for the best cameras around.
