“I was really interested in clothes when I was very young - I think probably because I lived in the countryside and mainly I wore my brothers’ jumpers and jodhpurs and stuff,” Alexa Chung muses as she flips through photos of her best (and most questionable) outfits through the years for British Vogue’s Life in Looks series.

She’s technically a celebrity because people started to notice her style and effortless charm. That is what a true it girl is. Mulberry named a bag after her. Gossip Girl wanted her to make a cameo. For a time, she was one of Karl Lagerfeld’s muses. Vogue kept asking her to do covers. If that’s not what a celebrity is, then I don’t know what is. Being a celebrity is more than being an actor or singer. And Vogue has always featured models and it-girls.

Alexa Chung had an impact on a whole generation’s fashion. Everything that was a trend she would wear it 2 years before. I remember trying to copy her style and look for straight jeans everywhere and for years it was so hard to find it, we only had jeggins and mom jeans at most of the stores where I lived. Also, if socks and loafers are still a statement these days, Alexa had a huge role on it. I missed the mini skirts and denim dungarees (pants and skirts) in the outfit selection but still… she’s so iconic. Bring her over more often, Vogue!

I'd happily watch Alexa go over another 20 looks tbh, her style has always been great! She seems to always have fun with fashion, which I appreciate. One of my favourite looks of hers was that stunning pale pink velvet Luella dress she wore to the Elle style awards - a great example of the sugary sweet style she mentioned ironically wearing in the video.
