"What did I do wrong?" Well, sitting down across from Alekhine might not have been _too_ wise. But seriously, the magic in that game was how Alekhine pursued tiny improvements in his position, one after another, until he'd achieved an attacking formation that Lasker, several of whose pieces were too far away from the theater of battle to participate, could not restrain. Mato, if it's not too much to ask, would you please consider presenting Reti / Alekhine, Baden-Baden, 1925? It's a favorite of mine.

Lovely game by Alekhine. Of course what was lasker's queen doing along the bfile? Of course queen*pawn at g6. i saw it immediately. In fact I was waiting for it the moment Alekhine moved his pawn and Lasker shifted his knight. I knew it was game over. Great tactical display by Alekhine. Thk you, dear mato sir for another Alekhine gem from the archives. By the way notice your old games, especially like Morphy, pilsbury, capa, Alekhine, etc get way way more views and comments than your new games. That says something about peoples tastes, likes and dislikes, their proclivities when it comes to chess. Just saying, I hope you don't mind, and get my point. Of course it's just my opinion, thks.

I'm pleased to say that I found this queen sacrifice that leads to checkmate. No way I'd have even looked for it until Mato said "Please pause and find the best move for white". Unprompted I bet I would just have retreated my queen.

Great game. I think it's worth noting that Lasker was pretty old at this point, and he lacked the stamina to perform at a high level for long tournaments. However, that doesn't give Alekhine enough credit.

After lasker played f6, Alekhine's light squared bishop became monster on the long diagonal. So after castling kicking opponents queen with pawns isn't a good idea. He should've played something like Nc5 instead and try to deal with strong bishop.
