I'm a devout Catholic and although I do like the Iscariot Organization and absolutely love the pure badassness that is Alexander Anderson, The thing the never did like about them was how overzealous and prejudiced they were against Non-Catholics, specifically the Hellsing Organization just because they were Anglicans, they're both spiritual organizations dedicated to fighting the forces of darkness, they need to pull their heads out their asses and do some calm soul searching And what's also weird is that Abraham Van Helsing (the founder of the Hellsing Organization) was actually a Catholic, No joke; I guess his children converted to Anglicanism

That’s the whole point. The creator of the manga and anime like to over dramatize certain ideas and objects. He did this with the religious conflicts. You can also see this in Anderson’s and Alucard’s ideals. You can also see this over dramatization with many characters having glasses and the flint or flash that said glasses give off. The author did a lot of that sounds cool or looks cool, so imma use it. But yeah I get what you mean.

Anderson's death wasn't really a defeat imo. Sure Alucard kills him in the end but not before all the souls he had consumed for his #lifehack were set free. Also Alucard according to a wiki trip i took was willing to let Anderson kill him at that time but when Seras's tries to save him Alucard kills Anderson to save her life. So saving millions of souls from slavery seems to me like a death Anderson would accept with no regrets.

@@hyattonwyattboys Actually, youre wrong. In the manga, the Nazi Not constantly says that Anderson is an unknown factor. His plan was to have Alucard absorb all the dead in London. And have Cheshire kill himself. And to do that all he needed was a massacre on such a scale that Alucard couldn't resist. His ace in the hole was Walter. Anderson stealing one of the most holy artifacts, and almost killing Alucard honestly probably would have pissed him off, as his only real ambition was a worthy opponent, aka Hellsing and Alucard. Which is also why he had Walter watching the entire fight. I'm sure if Walter thought Anderson was going to win, he'd have attacked as well, as his goal was killing Alucard. In the end, Anderson was the wild card that potentially could have ruined everything for the badguys, as well as the good. As a new monster would have been borne. And we all know it took the Nazis decades to come up with even one plan to kill Alucard. Anderson would have wiped em out without any effort.

I was genuinely broken and distraught when Father Alexander was blowing in the wind, like dust that he had became. When Yumie and Heinkle were sad that their father figure was perishing. When Alexander says, “Maxwell, is that you? . . . Say your prayers. Amen” it gives me chills every time. Father Alexander and Nicholas D Wolfwood (from Trigun) are, so far, my favorite priests!

You should do a video on "What is a monster in Hellsing." The definition of a monster is one of the most fascinating and complicated subjects in the series. It's also really cool how we basically see the complete trinity of monsters: Alucard/Dracula, the monster in the name of the Demonic, who rejected God and Humanity in the service of Lucifer. Anderson, the monster in the name of the Divine, who rejected Humanity and Satan in the service of God. Finally the Major, the monster in the name of Humanity, who rejected God and Satan in the service of self.

Anderson is my favourite character in Hellsing, mostly because he is quite a good guy, behind his psychotic murderous tendencies, he is fundamentally a monster hunter protecting humanity. Even though in the anime they say the Church burns heretics or something, so... I'm a bit torn (the funny thing is that heretic burning was seen as a very extreme thing throughout history, and performed quite rarely)

Besides his sheer awesomeness and the glorious Norio Wakamoto voicing him... I love how he is the head priest of a orphanage, very loved by the children he cares for. Apparently many of Iscariot members like the samurai nun are his children so they love and respect him as a father. He might be a monster, but he is a monster of love and good. I feel like Anderson would be a unstoppable force no matter what he choose to do. If he was a Catholic church social worker he would build housing for the poor with his own two hands, he would feed and care as many people as he could. I think it's his selflessness what defines him as a character. A determinator like Guts, but one that has suceed through his struggles and came up in top. One that has been appreciated and cared for the group he is part of.

I'm not going to lie Hellsing was one of my favorite series of all time growing up watching anime that in many other older ones as well as time went on and I will see this the part I love about the fight between Anderson and Alucard is the ending of their battle because it was shocking to me how much Alucard did to become a monster while father Anderson chose to become a monster for the sake of there being an idea of good even if it cost somebody else to actually kill him but the part that's more shocking about the whole entire scene is how peaceful it is before Walter shows up and I feel that that's the point of the symbolism is how much humanity is embraced within us and how much we become monsters from time to time and I'm not saying you have to be a murderer to become a monster I mean there are people that can look at your situation of suffering and just walk away are saying there's nothing wrong with you showing how much of a monster they are

The reason that alucard wants to be killed by a human is because his first and to that point only defeat was given to him by the hands of someone who was merely human. And also, the story of anderson was almost exactly the same as how alucard became the vampire he was.

Alucard was defeated before Abraham Van Helsing, back when he was Vlad III Dracula he was defeated by the Ottomon Empire, it's what ultimately caused him to turn into a vampire because he believed God turned his back on him because he lost the war.

While Hellsing goes for style over substance, it's a surprisingly moving story due to its excellent main cast and attention to detail as a Dracula fan-sequel. In this case, Anderson's fanaticism could easily have turned him into a joke character. Instead, his loyalty, integrity, and zealotry are contrasted with Alucard's pessimism. His fanaticism and ruthlessness blinds him to accepting Hellsing as comrades (which causes a lot of harm), but his morals won't allow Hellsing to be killed by a pack of Nazi vampires either. Anderson's life, death, and refusal to compromise causes Hellsing, his enemies, to show him honor and respect even as he's killed fighting them.

I think this is a perfect case of why is more important than how. Alucard became a monster because the world more or less forced him to be, while Anderson became a monster to finish an objective. The one that was more human at the end was Alucard, who didn't want to throw everything away but was forced to. Anderson did. I think at the end Anderson realized that, and at least in the subbed version it sounded like he had a respect for Alucard. He wouldn't have changed anything at all of course and I think he'd still treat Alucard as no more than a monster. However I think his thought process shifted just a little bit when he saw Alucard sad over his death. Not enough to even notice in his faith but still. I have no idea for the dubbed version though.

When Alucard was defeated by Abrahanm Van Helsing he wasn't anywhere near as powerful as what he is now, Integra states that the Helsing / Hellsing family experimented on him for years ultimately making him as OP as he is in the series. A religion is a belief you base your life around. So it is essentiak to life as a human because we are sentient creatures. Everyone has a religion even if they would like to say otherwise probably because of how they perceived the term because of previous experiences with religions based on beliefs that were not aligned with the absolute reality, but one must remember to act only logically and not be biased. A belief is the acceptance of something to be true. It can be blind but it would leave the individual prown to error which would thus make them unable to evolve and achieve anything in life. So it is best to act logically and believe based on logic and evidence.

I can see what you were trying to get at when it comes to the duality that religion can bring, particularly when taken to its logical exstream. However I would have to say that overall it's a vital thing and good thing in comparison to its absence. This being due to it unlike secular ideologies provides believers with a rational of how the world works (metaphysics), a shared moral framework, ways to live forfilling lives and their purpose in the world. All of these being key requirements for functional resiliant individuals and societies. It only bring during encredably prosperous times that these fundimental questions can go unaddressed.

Considering what I'm seeing today, with how far communists are willing to go in order to enact it (not gonna get into a fight about it's merits, just wanna say how dogmatic it's adherents are), I think Dogma is the problem. The same goes for capitalism. How many people died because of the USA and USSR's bickering? Religious dogma might be the LEAST harmful. It's just that most dogma until the 19th century was theistic in nature.

Just a small nitpick but Anderson is the farthest thing from Chaotic Good. Anderson is a Lawful Evil character, Lawful meaning he follows a strict code being his religion and will not stray from it, Evil since well there is no mercy for those outside his code, the killing of any non Catholics is inherently an evil act. The closest you will get to chaotic good is the hellsing organization or specifically Integra. Even though her method of bringing people to justice would be seen as un orthodox in both the literal and figurative sense by using the king of vampires, a true monster, she uses it to do one thing, protect England and it's people. While the iscariot organization helps spearhead a catholic crusade against heretics, hellsing is a defense and nothing more.

Can anyone help me out? I remember watching Hellsing when it was first translated on Toonami(i believe) and i swear i remember him saying something to the affect of "The catholic church became the most powerful organization through mass bloodshed" or something. but i cannot find how the quote goes anywhere. Did i make it up?

Reason why I love his character and why he also reminds me so much of Rorshach. Because they are so flawed by their belief, believing that is it white and black, when the world isn't like that at all. Wishing it could be that simple.
