The nation focuses on cricket because it's the only sport that India competes well in. If India had talents like Djokovic and Federer who consistently won grand slams for the nation, Tennis would be a much bigger sport in India and many many more people would follow it and play it. Especially young kids who would be inspired to take up the sport.

Why does cricket get dragged into this? BCCI makes its own money and they are free to do whatever they want with it. Plus they fund other sports quite heavily. Like a CSR of sorts. Please read up about it.

If you watched WTL in December, then Nagal's performance here would be of little surprise. He carried that good form into AO & got the straight sets win over an opponent who expected an easy victory. Looking like the Indian Arthur Fils out there! Incredible showing -- not a wild stretch to see him in the top 100 by mid-year -- if he can replicate this form, even top 50 is possible.
