He was the only one made national hero while still alive and remember his death announcement on the radio 📻 (Lady Bustamante was by his side when he died). For the following days until he was buried the airways were filled with stories and documentations about him. Not even Bob Marley funeral was as big.

Busta started out in Jamaica as a trade unionist; he was the founder of The Bustamante Industrial Trade Union. His first activism was extensive advocacy as letters to the editor of The Gleaner. He was a very complex leader.

Sangster became Prime Minister in February 1967, fell into a mysterious coma and died in Canada from brain hemorrhage in April. That year was unique because there were 3 different Prime ministers in the country. This has not happened since.

He was an enigma. Not a lot was known about him prior to the 1930s. He should've learned to speak Spanish if he went to school in Spain. There are some gaps here that needs to be cleared up. I also read some years ago that he worked somewhere as a dietician. Those records should still be available.

His detractors said Busta was illiterate and that nonsense persists even today.

Can you believe that he was president of the BITU when he died in 1977? He should've stepped down from the Prime Ministership from 1964-1965. That would've given Donald Sangster the chance to shine. That was selfish of him. He didn't want to relinquish power.
@wayneanthony1089Ай бұрын
The only political leaders in Jamaica who willingly relinquish power were Norman Manley and PJ Patterson.

Bustamante got children,illegally. I personally know of his granddaughter. He changed his name and lived a life of duplicaty. Was not a very forthright or honest person and was a go getter which helped him to achieve his goals in life.
