Anthony Caro was a friend of David Smith's. In fact Caro was in Vermont on the day that Smith died in a car crash there. Caro then went to Smith's studio and, in an interview, admitted that he had 37 tons of steel scraps from Smith's studio sent to his studio in Britain. This has always seemed very strange to me.
