So good to hear it again after a long time. Cheers to my beloved KZbin! Alex Glazunov was a terrific composer. Loves how he weaves in the hymn A Mighty Fortress.

yes, the presence of the Lutheran Hymn is so appropriate a nod to the religion of Finland from the land of Orthodoxy- superb performance too!

Thank you for posting this superb idiomatic performance of this wonderful piece by Glazunov. It has always been one of my favorites and the very characteristic sound of the orchestra under the great Svetlanov is outstanding!

The whole of this sound architecture is a flight into the Sublime. It is a very beautiful music played with exceptional skill and an impressive inner feeling. A delightful listening and therapeutic experience !

Alexander Glazunov Finnish Fantasy for orchestra in C major, Op. 88 Description by Tim Mahon Composed in Helsinki, Alexander Glazunov's Finnish Fantasy (1909) demonstrates the composer's genius for orchestration. The basic theme is taken from a familiar Finnish folk song motif, which Glazunov subjects to increasingly imaginative and expert treatments. Russian composers of this era found Finland a rich source of inspiration for their orchestral music, and Glazunov here makes full use of the ensemble to express the indefinable pathos and open spaces that pervade the music of this country. The Fantasy is alternately Romantic and menacing, bright and somber; it changes with great abruptness from evoking a Finnish landscape to expressing the character of the Finnish people through the use of a well-known Lutheran chorale, played by deep-throated brass to a simple string accompaniment. www.allmusic.com/composition/finnish-fantasy-for-orchestra-in-c-major-op-88-mc0002391842. The piece starts with the theme of a Finnish folk song called "Kukkuu, kukkuu, kaukana kukkuu" and continues with "ORVON HUOKAUS" at around 6 minutes.
