another utterly riveting performance from this astonishing young pianist. His acute attention to detail never outweighs his fundamental search for an overall unity. His dynamic range is phenomenal but always absolutely under control. In the funeral march that lyrical middle section can so easily become repetitive and, enchanting though it is, mundane but Alexander plays it without any added sentiment and maintains such control that it takes on an architectural quality. We use the word "artist" very loosely when we talk about musicians. In Alexander's case there is no doubt that he is indeed an artist in the fullest sense of the word.

It is such a privilege to be able to listen to Alexander's profound inner thoughts about every note he plays, thoughts that bring his utter mastery of the piano into total submission to the music. This piece particularly reveals his ability to use his technical genius to serve the dynamic intentions of the composer. So much so that no nuance of emotion and drama is missed and I am drawn in and held to the very last note - and then simply have to listen to it again - and again - and.....
