I had the extreme pleasure of seeing the young maestro play this concerto at the Barbican Centre in London February 16th. Alexander was so dazzling, the audience erupted into thunderous applause after the end of the first movement! Hard to believe, his playing of this piece now is even more intense and profound. He's only twenty-two: what heights he has yet to reach!

I have never studied music or learned to play a musical instrument, but I have discovered that listening and watching Alexander play the piano with or without orchestration has filled a hole in my heart. When I watch his hands move across the keyboard and the expression on his face as well as his body move with the music I imagine that he is expressing something from his soul. It may be my need to believe in the supernatural, but I believe that this young man is a gift from the higher power, to be enjoyed and rejoiced. It is my prayer that he is able to continue this as his “love and profession” and that he continues to find his joy in this endeavor as he continues to bring joy to those of us who take the time to listen.

Alexander is a gift of diligence, love of music, hours of practice and an attempt to express himself in the music of the Russian Masters. He is gifted young fellow. Blame his parents, not the supernatural. There are others like him, the rare, the exceptions. Few show such humility and often child-like ebullience.

IMO, This performance is one of the best No 3s on KZbin. Mr Malofeev truly captures the "rhapsodic" elements of this most wonderful concerto. The clarity of his duo hand passages are just so excellent. Kudos to this wonderful orchestra filled with so many 1st rate musicians, and an inspired and attentive conductor. The 2nd movements theme and variations are captiured with humor and expressiveness. What a pleasure it has been to watch this pianist grow from technical wizard to a consummate MUSICIAN of the highest order. BTW, his performance of the Prokofiev Toccata (an encore from his excellent Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto #2) is not to be missed.

Yannick Nézet-Séguin is doing a wonderful job, what a phenomenal director - incredibly sensitive - and so Alexander's art of playing can develop at its best. Tears in my eyes ... As if I had heard Prokofiev's Concert for the first time ...

Ох, какая свежесть веет от дирижера и солиста. Маэстро Александр, мой ровестник, мое почтение! Вытеснил из плейлиста Горовитца и Рихтера😏

There is simply nothing to be said about this . . . except many years from now, it is likely to be said that this was the definitive performance of this piece of music. Many congratulations to the orchestra, to its conductor, and most of all, of course, to Alexander Malofeev, who continues to astonish us all with his extraordinary talents.

Just when age is claiming our great pianists, along comes this amazing young master to give us hope and gratitude. I cannot help thinking that this must have been like seeing a young Mozart perform. And aside from that to have the appearance to make Adonis envious is beyond amazing. Already his repertoire leaves one slack-jawed and awed. His renditions of pieces like Prokofiev concerti from memory are beyond belief. Not a single false note reminds me of Benedetti Michelangeli. Bravissimo!!!
