So although it seems weird to westerners, in Russian culture what they did was very polite and he actually got quite the response in the applause. The Russians are a little more reserved that way.

@@ArianeMae15He is Belarusian who lives in Norway. His native language is very much Russian. This song's lyrics sound so much better in Russian than the English version. It's like the ATC - Around The World (LA LA LA) sounds like shit in comparison to the original, Ruki V Verh - Pesenka.

@pietjepuk002 yeah, sure. But he has lived in Norway since he was 5. Just being russian, doesn't automatically mean you talk the language fluently. I know of some friends who grew up outside of Norway, and they couldnt speak norwegian fluently, their grammar + pronounciation was very bad. Anyways, I am glad to hear that Rybak speaks russian very good. He is a very talented artist.

@borsos94 Yes, he is russian, but he has lived in Norway since age 5, and that is why I wondered how his russian is. The reason why I asked, is because I know of norwegians who after living in France or Germany, dont longer speak norwegain good, you can hear from their grammar and pronounciation.

The crowd is absolutely typical Russian. They are looking seriously and in the same time in head the sing the song along the performance. When they drunk Vodka than are beginning to dance or sing. 😄😂 Please don't judge the crowd most of them are policeman.

It's because it's in his native language. I bet this was his original version and he just wrote the English version for Eurovision 2009, since all that show is 90% of singers singing in English instead of showcasing their own country's music. Just pandering to the American dominating western world, since that's all the EU is, puppets of the US.

Come on. You can't say that the grainy audio from a cellphone recording sounds better than the original singer/writer performing it. Plus, not like the Russian soldier sang his own rendition of it. He sang it as is.

He was Russian National Guard i.e. Rosgvardia (Росгвардия), assuming we're talking about the video of him sitting on the front the BTR as it pulls up closer to the camera and then he starts playing his white electric violin followed by singing.

omg.. the serious faces of the audience .. like a funeral. Russians should be a bit more loosely and swinging. A german saying is "putting a good face on bad things"; there it's the other way round. . diese ernsten Mienen im Publikum .. wie auf einer Trauerfeier. Die Russen sollten sich mal ein bisschen locker machen. Man kann bekanntlich eine "Gute Miene zum bösen Spiel machen"; da ist es aber genau umgekehrt.

@nathanglennmitchem it has nothing to do with them being russian, the public is made up of war veterans and police- what do you expect? would american veterans be smiling and laughing and jumping around in the same situation? I dont think so :) Im not russian by the way
