Thank you for your effort in presenting this historical account of Alexander Scriabin. He was a fascinating individual and a spectacular musical genius!

Who here had a love affair with his music...mine lasted for 4 years...couldn’t play anyone else that whole time...completely engaged me .

Think I’m currently experiencing this right now. Simply cannot get enough of his music and, while I know that there are other composers that wrote works of divine genius, I just can’t help but feel Scriabin surpasses them all. I know I’ll eventually learn to appreciate other composers again like I once did, but for right now I’m enjoying living and breathing Scriabin’s incredible sound world.

Yes, this is happening to me right now. I am completely obsessed with Scriabin and am glad to hear that this has happened to other people as well. I'm glad I came to Scriabin's piano music having played Brahms and Rachmaninoff first, or I would not have been able to handle it. The issue is that I have other things I need to be doing, like sleeping! And practicing my other instruments, which I also teach. My mother is also a music teacher and I asked her why she didn't play more Scriabin. She said that his music is gorgeous, but that she prefers music with melodies that she can sing when she's away from her piano. But the thing is, I can sing Scriabin's melodies. Anybody else? And along with them is a whole texture, a whole way that the heart wants to move forward. Like a bodily gesture. A dance move, almost. I hate that Scriabin was so unbalanced as a person. I hear about that and I know that we're always just a step away from flipping into something not even close to ordinary reality, some kind of ecstasy. While I did my master's thesis about mystical states induced by music, I can't be like that in real life. I am a mom and my kids are still little. I have to be grounded in the body and calm--all that. But darned if Scriabin's music doesn't take me places. I'm not even close to having had enough of it. Thanks so much for posting. It helps to know that I'm not the only one that's fallen into the wormhole!

@@TomCL-vb6xc, what are you working on right now? And why does it move you? What do you love about it?
@agoodsetofbellows3 жыл бұрын
@Jcil A, OK, I need to listen to those works. I'm working on an etude now (C-sharp minor) and have the piano sonatas coming. I'm a bit afraid of this deep dive into his stuff, especially during lockdown, but a few months ago I moved to a house that faces the main street in our village. My piano is just under that window. So now people can hear me when they walk by, even though we're locked down, and I love that they are walking through such gorgeous stuff. I also feel a lot less alone. How is everyone else coping with practicing during lockdown? My piano is electronic, so I can switch to headphones when need be.

Another Scriabin fan here, nice to see someone else trying to inform the world of Scriabin. Have you read the biography by Faubion Bowers by chance? That will give you a lot of more info on the man if you are interested.

Carlos Encarnación Great mystic romantic composer. I love the music romantic notes and accords tonalities on his symphonic poems Prometheus and Poem of Ectasis. French musical influence is present in those musical compositions but his three symphonies sound Russian all the way.

Because nobody else seems to be obsessed with the composers we're obsessed with at the time. I remember when it was Brahms and I had read five Brahms biographies and annotated my piano scores with information from various books--what Brahms was doing when he wrote each work and so on. I remember telling my daughter that I'd done that and she said, "Duh, Brahms was writing music then." Which makes perfect sense and is so funny! But you know what? Someone doing a report on Brahms, a Peabody piano student who taught for us, came to me to get information. Sometimes it pays to geek out. :)
