Historical facts = Strabo (63 BC) tells us that Illyrians, Thracians, Bottians and Thesprotes shared the Macedonian territory (Tribes of Pelasgian origin 🇦🇱 ). Source: (Strabo, VII, Frg .n°.11) The Macedonians have just propagated the Hellenic culture and have adopted it little by little ... The ancient authors called the Macedonians Barbaros/non-Greeks... For example the great Thucydides... Example : Thucydides (II, 80- IV, 126) who qualified of Barbaros (not Greek) the MACEDONIANS, Thesprotes, Molosses, Châones Atintanes, Paravaiens, Orestiens etc! Moreover it is not the only one, far from there ....
@Universal..3 жыл бұрын
Historical facts = Olympias, the mother of Alexander the Great. But who was this woman who is said to have astonished the Macedonian king with her beauty ? I will write based only on facts, that is, on the quotes of famous ancient authors, mainly Greek. ( For me there is one thing in history, which with the facts are not said ... ) According to Plutarch, Alexander was a descendant of Ajax through his father Neoptolemos and this is accepted without discussion. According to Justin, Philip married Olympias, daughter of Neoptolemos, king of the Molosses. All the authors thus agree on the fact that Alexander the Great was the grandson of a Molossian. For those who do not know this tribe (the Molossians), who were they, what territory did they occupy and how were they considered by the ancient authors ? Let us stop for a moment to know more about the tribe of the Molossians from which the mother of Alexander the Great came. To make it simple, the tribe of Molossians is in Epirus somewhere in the region of Chamerie on the back of Thesprotians who dominated the coastal part. In addition to this, the Kaons who were in the south of present-day Albania and who constituted three of the great tribes of Epirus. Historically, tribes like the Molossians or others who composed Epirus like the Kaons, the Thesprotians, the Paraue, the Antintans and others, are historically linked to the Illyrian (🇦🇱) culture or to a part of it. As Thucydides tells us about the events of the Peloponnesian War that involved both actually in reality Illyrians and Illyria itself, these tribes were commonly considered barbarian (non-Greek) tribes. Thucydides: - "Among the barbarians there were about 1,000 Kaons who ruled without a king. Along with the Kaons, the Thesprotians also participated and were also ruled without a king. There were also the MOLOSSIANS, the Atintants and the Paraues. ( HISTORY OF THE PELOPONNESIAN WAR ) All these tribes, mentioned by the historian of Athenian origin Thucydides for their participation in the famous Peloponnesian war in the 5th century B.C., are considered as barbarians, therefore not Greek! ( Thucydides II, 80- IV, 126 ) The Kaons, the Thesprotians of Chamerie, the Arintans and the Parauets constitute the backbone of what one called Epirus. Among them are of course the Molossians where are the roots of the family of the mother of Alexander the Great ! And Thucydides is not the only source which defines the Epirotes as non-Greeks. There are many others! According to the encyclopedia Basic Antiquity, composed of 86 volumes... Pauly Wissowa the Real "Encyclopedia Alterumswissenschaft" says that the Epirotes are of Illyrian origin 🇦🇱 and have strong links with the population of southern Italy! More concise on the issue, the only Nobel Prize in history 🎓 is none other than Theodor Mommsen author of the cycle "Corpus of Antiquity inscriptions" which says that: - "the brave Epirotes, the Albanians 🇦🇱 of antiquity supported with traditional loyalty the young and brave Pyrrhus or "the Eagle" as they called him " . Let us point out on this subject that the Albanians name themselves "Shqiptar", that is to say "sons or children of the eagle". The soldiers of Pyrrhus (3rd century BC / Epirote King), called their King "the Eagle" and that the latter retroqued them one day that they were his "children", so the Albanians are the children of the Eagle ... "Shqiptar = child of the Eagle .... " . (Pyrrhus was the cousin of Alexander the Great, of the Molossian tribe and himself an ambitious conqueror, Pyrrhus is one of the most formidable adversaries of the early days of ancient Rome). Lorenzo Braccesi (Professor of Greek History at the University of Venice, Italy, in 1986) tells us: - "Olympias was originally from Epirus, on the part of the father who was king of Epirus, on the part of the mother also and that Illyrian blood 🇦🇱 circulated in the family, there is no doubt. " ( 9,01- 9,15 . The true story of Alexander the great ... - Gjurmë Shqiptare ) That the Epirotes are or are not Illyrians is a discussion that, from an archaeological point of view, is resolved. The Epirotes and the Illyrians have the same culture, if we consider the Iron Age, the use of tombs, fortifications with several rows of walls, their material culture, the shape of the pots or the ornaments which are identical to those of Korça (current Albania) and religion. Not only ancient authors like Thucydides, Strabo and others have called the Epirotic tribes barbarians (non-Greek) but also later serious publications based on documents and archaeological findings point out the same thing. The Molosses, were one of the Illyrian tribes of Epirus from where came the mother of Alexander the Great Olympias daughter of the king and the sister . The Molosses, were one of the Illyrian tribes of Epirus from where came the mother of Alexander the Great Olympias daughter of the king and sister of another well known Illyrian prince "Alexander the Molossus". I believe that all or part of the strong character of Alexander comes exactly from his mother, from the house that also gave birth to Pyrrhus. The powerful role of women in Illyrian society has been documented by many authors, including those who today identify themselves as Greeks, such as Athenaeus and Theompope. Olympias' influence on her son Alexander was so great. She believed that her son had divine blood and that he was born to rule the greatest kingdom of all time. But the mother's family was not the only Illyrian family to which Alexander was affiliated, his link with the Illyrians was stronger than that!

Some say that he should be called Alexander the conqueror instead of Great. Many men were conquerors. Caesar, Genghis Khan, Suleiman, Napoleon. Alexander was Great. He didn't name himself great like Napoleon or some little known Prussian and Russian rulers. History gave him that name. Plus the word great means much more in Greek. Μέγας Αλέξανδρος meaning that no one can be greater, no one can achieve more. A king who could lay low and leave the battle to his army while spitting orders. Instead he fought in the first line, in phalanx or on his horse, the Greek way.Did so much in 33 years, most "conquerors" would need 1000 lifetimes. Btw the Persians used Greek mercenaries all the time. The reason for that is that the Persian soldiers were ill trained and pretty ignorant of battle. Imagine being a persian soldier, having heard stories about your ancestors trying to invade Greece and being slaughtered. Then you see 40.000 Greeks with 6 meters spears marching in perfect phalanx ready to take revenge. Poor guys must had been shitting their pants.

there are no writings for socrates, all we know about him is from plato and other sophists and philosophers. we know he existed and that he was executed. for aristotle you can read politics, however he was a private teacher for him so most likely the things he said and taught him were in the span of the moment unless he wrote it down. but most likely he didn't because most of what we know about alexander himself is written after he died so it can be a bit askew. good luck.

Macedonia has always been the core of the Hellenic civilization. Alexander the Great visited the site of Ancient Troy in 334 B.C., as he embarked on his campaign against the Persian Empire, leading a unified Greek Army (Hellenic League). The visit to Troy held both personal and strategic significance for Alexander. On one hand, it fulfilled his long-held desire to pay tribute to his hero Achilles and connect with the glorious past of Greek mythology. On the other hand, the visit served as a powerful symbolic gesture that showcased his intention to unite the Greek world under his rule and carry on the legacy of the legendary heroes. Upon reaching the Tomb of Achilles, Alexander took a moment to pay his respects and acknowledge the greatness of the legendary warrior. Then, Alexander poured oil over the tomb, a customary practice in ancient Greek funerary rituals, symbolizing purification and sanctification. He also placed garlands of flowers and foliage on the tomb, signifying honor and respect for the deceased. Next, Alexander and Hephaestion sacrificed animals, likely horses, to honor the spirits of Achilles and Patroclus. This ritual was meant to appease the souls of the dead and seek their favor. Finally, Alexander is believed to have organized athletic games at the site, following the ancient Greek tradition of hosting such competitions in memory of deceased heroes. By paying homage to Achilles, Alexander was reinforcing his connection to the heroic past and legitimizing his claim to lead the Greek world. After Troy and his first victory at the battle of the Granicus, while leading a unified Greek Army (Hellenic League) to avenge the Persian invasions in Greece 150 years prior, Alexander the Great sent 300 suits of full Persian armour (to honor the legendary last stand of the 300 Spartans in Thermopylae) to Athens, as a votive offering to Goddess Athena, to be hung on the Acropolis. He ordered an inscription to be fixed over them; “Alexander, son of Philip and all the Greeks, present this offering from the spoils taken from the barbarians inhabiting Asia". A statue group, known as the Granicus Monument, was erected by Alexander in the sanctuary of Zeus at Dion. This consisted of bronze statues by Lysippus, of Alexander with twenty-five of his companions who had died in the initial cavalry charge, all on horseback. Alexander the Great is a sacred, immortal, legendary figure for us Greeks. Mostly for uniting all Greek City States and Kingdoms and spreading the unique Hellenic culture to the edges of the world. The rightful descendant of Achilles. Eternal Alexander, eternal Hellas 🔥🇬🇷

That's something you ought to tell to his sister (who's a mermaid) if you ever encounter her in the sea. She'll ask :"Ζεί ο Βασιλιάς Αλέξανδρος;" "Is King Alexander alive?" If the sailors answer that he lives ("Ζει, ζει και βασιλεύει"), then she let them go. But if they say that he's dead then she shanks the ship and the sailors, and then the mermaid regrets it for the lives of the sailors she took away, cries and mourns, from the cries rises a storm and a great storm that destroys everything in its path. Or that's the story anyway.

@@Lion-rs2qy god? What does god have to do with ancient Greece and polytheism? Alexander the Great did not intend to "liberate" anyone, he was a conqueror. I am Greek and proud of my history, but let's not manipulate history to make it look better or suit today's religion. Alexander would be considered a paganist, a heretic according to Christianity today, as well as a tyrant and a conqueror who slaughtered thousands. He did accomplish great things, but he also used violence to do so. Oh and, the Persian empire was not that bad, we as Greeks have learned to demonize it as it has been our country's enemy for centuries. As usual mr. Simon, your videos are all jaw-dropping. But, as a rabbi, I have a little correction to make: when Alexander arrived in Jerusalem he was greeted by the then Great Priest Simon the Just. It was Simon who asked Alexander NOT to destroy Jerusalem and Alexander abided. But, his acceptance was not for free. He wanted to place a statue of a certain Greek deity inside the Temple and, of course, Simon refused; but, Simon made a different offer to him: if he gave up the idea of inserting the statue into the Temple, he would command every child born in that year to be called Alexander. Of, course, Alexander accepted and Jerusalem was then saved. The second little correction goes like this: the Temple he met when he arrived in Jerusalem WAS NOT Solomon's Temple. Solomon's Temple was already destroyed by the Babylonians around a hundred years before. The Persian King Darius, gave permission to the Jews to go back to the Land of Israel and Esdras and Nehemias started the building of THE SECOND TEMPLE OF JERUSALEM, which would stand until its final destruction by the hands of the Romans (by the General and future Emperor Titus - to be more precise, the campaign was started by Titus' father the general and later on Emperor Vespasian). I hoped I helped clarify ! Keep up the good work and all the best ! May God grant you wisdom and intelligence to produce more and more historic videos !
