Volk is amazing. Took some time for him to be recognized, but now he is a true star. Incredibly well-rounded, super active, a mindset like no other...a great champion. He is right, Topuria hasn't tested real elite fighters, Max and Vol will most probably school him.

Max has issues with Volk because he faints alot and intercepts Max everytime he lets his hands go, one in the middle. Topuria can do that to max, I think now he's faster than Max, noticeably stronger than him, better on the ground... Yea as much as I want Topuria to become a champion, I feel confident in him fighting against Max and cracking him good.

Ilia is very young still and has lots of growing to do. If Volk underestimates that he can be in for a rougher night than he expects. When you're like 26 and fighting you level up a lot between fights usually.

Topuria is relatively small for 145, he went against one of the biggest 155 pounder in the UFC and KO'd him. Confidence is off the roof, no way he underestimates Volk, but I can see it the other way around. Yair was dangerous on his feet so Volk took him down, good luck doing it with Topuria.

Look at boxing, smaller guys go on forever lol. MMA athletes are just getting better and they care about their bodies a lot more than past generations, nutrition is cleaned up, no IV and TRT to avoid losing actual body fat instead of just cutting 700lbs and using an IV to rehydrate. Everybody is lasting longer in this generation of sports in pretty much every discipline. Look at Ronaldo and Messi. Being that elite past 32-33 was very rare even 10-15 years ago.

volk is the man. this is what happens when you get a real man to win instead of a boy like conor. he still hasn't grown up. its a good look to operate with respect for yourself, your craft, those around you...etc. i love how honest of an interview he is as well as the friendship he has nurtured with the show. well done ariel! great and important take on the 'shield' he has to put up. i think we got some real and honest, real-time introspective reflection there. i know i can relate to what he said about feeling that way, and i think many of us probably can to some degree. none of us are world champs, meeting dignitaries or whatever, but we all engange in hightened social situations... some of us may have experienced some level of spotlight. and i can relate to his take on missing out on what is out around me due to my focus on conducting myself. it is a tough line to walk. but what i loved more was that he went on to say something like, yeah i may have to work on that a bit... and unless i am fooled, everything about him seems sincere to one degree or another.... i can relate to that as well... that being, the ability to look at yourself in abstract and pick and choose things to change or work on. focusing on maintain that level of awareness so that i can see those things as they come up to me, and see them when i miss them but am shown by a friend or other way. i have watched and respected volk's ability always seem take the best from his situation and improve. i feel like he is on some MJ level dedication and commitment, and i think everybody is starting to see it that hasn't already noticed. its inspiring to see this man dial things in with a level of confidence that border's on knowing. thanks for the read, and thank you to the champ for being an example for the people out here.

I consider him the goat. I get that Jones did a lot, but there werent folks at 205 that were like Mendez, Aldo, Holloway, Kattar, or Zombie. Many at 205 are (and were) very one dimensional; by no means were Jones' opponents slouches, but the level of competition, the well roundedness in his opponents' games, Volk is a world ender at featherweight. It's crazy. He and Jones have this wild fight IQ. Yeah, I guess it's Jones, Silva, and Volk (and GSP). But seriously, who at 205 could we equivocate to that division that's like Holloway or Aldo? Shogun's run wasnt long, and Jones had a sort of revolving door of fighters that 'never quite reached it.' And again, no knock to them either, but who of them held the title and defended them as Jose and Max did? And Volk schooled them both.
