I’m a Brit. Leon said he’ll be the first British champ because Bisping trained/lived in the US. DDP says the same thing and everyone makes it racial. It’s ridiculous. Edit: to the small-minded ppl who say I wouldn’t understand unless I was a different race. I am also black. Still don’t see a need for this to get racial. In Chael’s most recent interview w/Ariel. Ariel plays the DDP clip. Based on what DDP says, Chael says there’s nothing racial about it. It’s only when Ariel assumes “African-born, African-raised” is what annoyed Izzy and pressures Chael by saying “we HAVE to consider the history of Africa” that’s when Chael sees it that way. But you don’t HAVE to add a narrative that wasn’t explicitly stated. Perhaps you can just take a man at his word and stop adding a narrative to get offended about. I say this is a fan of both Izzy & Ariel. If you look for reasons to get offended you’ll find them.

You're conflating the term with "Britain" which is a demonym for citizens of "Great Britain" (a term used by English supremacists not Scottish, Welsh, Cornish or Northern Irish). Ariel, as a fan of yours since the beginning of your career, this is a tough watch. I can try to understand how it might be difficult to criticize fighters who you also want to have relationships/future interviews with. If this is the case then just don't make a video about the topic at all, let others discuss it. Hey Ariel, here is my take on the story. As an African who resides in South Africa and regard myself as an emotionally stable, level headed, reasonable person, here is what I heard from Drikus and Israel respectively. Drikus: I will be the first champion to represent African MMA. I was born in Africa, I was raised and educated in Africa, I started combat sports in Africa, I trained and learned MMA (and stil do) in Africa, and when I go home after winning a fight, I fly back to Africa. Thus, when I become a UFC champion I will be repping African MMA (African style of MMA) and take the belt back home to Africa and hopefully inspire more Africans to do the same. The Facts: Born in South Africa, Educated in Hartbeespoort South Africa. Started Kickboxing in a gym in South Africa and became junior world champion in K1. Made his pro debut in 2013 in the EFC a South African based MMA promotion, he became a double champ in the EFC. He made his UFC debut in October 2020, fighting and training with team CIT out of Pretoria South Africa and flew back there after the fight. After 6 fights in the UFC he continues to train in South Africa and goes back home after every fight and he is very proud of that fact. He happens to be a white skinned African. Israel: I am an African fighter and a UFC Champion and won't have a white man, ("cracker") who doesn't belong in Africa, ("product of colonisation") tell me that I do not represent African MMA or that I am not a real African (Dricus never said he wasn't African BTW). Even though my MMA career has no roots in Africa and I have done nothing on the ground for African MMA. The Facts: Born in Lagos Nigeria. Moved to New Zealand when he was 10. Started kickboxing at the age of 18 training out of New Zealand. He became a pro kickboxer fighting and training in China. He started MMA at the age of 21 fighting and training out of Auckland New Zealand (City Kickboxing). He made his UFC debut in 2017, fighting and training out of Auckland New Zealand. To this day he trains in Auckland New Zealand and returns home after every fight. His skin colour is black (You know like, Tiger Woods, the Williams sisters and Lewis Hamilton) PS: The entire UFC 290 card was hyped up around the Mexican fighters and how proud they are of their fighting spirit and combat sport culture and how many of them have reached the top of the MMA world in the face of adversity. Why in your eyes, is it so wrong when Dricus shows pride in his South African and African based MMA heritage and the obstacles he faced to reach the top of an international promotion?

This should be the top comment, perfect synopsis of the dispute. Israel hates having a mirror held up to show him who and what he really is. Ariel's fixation on apartheid and interjecting it in to this beef is so mind-numbingly dumb. Israel (and Marty) only lived in Nigeria until they were around 10, so they grew up just about on the opposite side of the continent from South Africa and would have never experience apartheid or any lasting effects from it. To expect Dricus to feel some type of shame and to neuter his thoughts because of the sins of people that look like him that occurred before he was even born is childish and displays an astounding lack of emotional maturity from guilt-ridden Ariel. But considering that he's cried multiple times because Dana and others were mean to him, it should shock no one that he lacks the slightest bit of emotional intelligence.

No Ariel. This is not explaining what happened. As a South African, I just feel that I need to try and clarify Dricus' comments. You guys on this show, the public and Israel are very uninformed what this is actually about. You played Dricus' comments a few times on your show. In Dricus' mind an African champion is someone who resides in Africa, trains in Africa etc etc. That is his thing, that is part of his goal. Why is this so important to him? Why is this so important to us as South Africans? Do you know why? Francis, like Dricue to a short extent is also contributing to African MMA development (he has a gym in cameroon, plus he makes it a point to go there for extended periods of time and inspire kids there). Further, francis is different because he immigrated out of Africa out of desperation not as a matter of convinience. Izzy's father on the other hand was a rich guy and had multiple slaves in africa and they emmigrated out because of the riches. Ironic is that prior to Izzy making the 36 and me comment in the octagon, he tested it out in the interview with Ariel by bringing up non existent DNA company AcenstryAndMe and Ariel was answering "Of Course" loudly in encouragement when Izzy told him this. This made Izzy believe that if a journalist sees nothing wrong with it and in fact encourages it, it is a logical valid statement. Izzy then used it again in the octagon in front of the world but gets egg on his face how absurd it is to mention a non existent company. If Ariel didn't encourage the non existent company DNA testing in his interview then Izzy would have never used it in the octagon. Ariel is partly responsible for Izzy looking like a tool. Yet notice how Ariel in this video never mentions he spoke to Izzy about the DNA testing on his show. Ariel excludes it on purpose because he knows he is partly to blame.
